This post is an updated version of a report originally published on Friday.
Via ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Fordham is targeting Mike Magpayo as their next head men’s basketball coach. From 2020 to 2025, Magpayo has been the head coach of UC Riverside, compiling an 89-63 overall record and taking the Highlanders to the first round of this year’s NIT. Magpayo also has experience coaching in New York City as an assistant at Columbia from 2010 to 2014.
Still unconfirmed by Fordham University, Magpayo’s hiring would end a coaching search started last Thursday with the firing of Keith Urgo. Fordham hired DHR Global, an executive search firm, to find a candidate for this position. Via Jaden Daly, DHR was the same firm that helped bring Kyle Neptune to the Rams in 2021.
UPDATE 3/29/25:
Via Matt Norlander of CBS, Mike Magpayo agreed to a 6-year contract to become the next head coach of Fordham Men’s Basketball. Norlander reported the contract agreement on Saturday afternoon a 1:09 PM EST. His report was later confirmed by Fordham Athletics via press release two hours later.
Magpayo, the 2023 Big West coach of the year, will be officially introduced as head coach at a press conference this Wednesday, April 2nd.
