Zoersel (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Heritage Sint-Teunes, Nenufar Photo Club, and RAAK host café-history sessions on November 27, 2025, at De Kapel in Zoersel. Eddy Van den Reeck shares stories; book Bier, Babbels en Borrels launches.
As GVA News reported, Heritage Sint-Teunes, the Nenufar Photo Club, and RAAK will hold a special event on Thursday, November 27, 2025. 2 sessions are planned at 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM at De Kapel on Handelslei, Zoersel, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium.
The program focuses on café life in Sint-Antonius in the past. Heritage Sint-Teunes collected stories from former café owners, their children, and regular customers. Some of these stories will be told live during the sessions.
What’s happening in Zoersel on November 27 with Heritage Sint-Teunes?
Eddy Van den Reeck of the Magic Flute café will share his memories in person. Film clips will present other accounts. A large screen will display old photographs alongside the stories. The local history society, Scilla van Schild, helped provide historical research and context.
The sessions on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, at De Kapel on Handelslei will cost €7 per person, which includes a drink. No registration is required. Visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a seat.
At the same time, Sint-Teunes Heritage is launching a new book titled “Bier, Babbels en Borrels” (Beer, Chatter, and Drinks). The book explores the history and culture of cafés in the village. Copies will be available at the event or can be ordered through Heritage Sint-Teunes. Sint‑Antonius, once called Juxschot, was first mentioned in 1443. A chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony was already standing by 1492, and the hamlet became a parish in 1842. The road between Antwerp and Turnhout reached Sint‑Antonius around 1787, helping trade and growth. By 1802, about 180 people lived in the village, with a few shops and inns. After World War II, Sint‑Antonius expanded quickly. On 1 January 1977, the village was transferred from the municipality of Brecht to Zoersel.
