Thomas Frank’s reaction
Very happy with a lot of things. In life and football, after let’s say a bad performance or a bad situation, it’s all about how you react. We showed a fantastic bounce-back mentality and put in a good performance.
The players found another level after the red card, which was super impressive. The fans were amazing, they were behind us throughout the game.
[On Brennan Johnson’s red card] He didn’t have any intention to do anything that could even potentially be a red card. I still think it’s quite harsh – VAR see the still footage of the studs on the leg and it makes it look more brutal. I don’t think he did anything reckless in any way.
[On Mickay Van de Ven’s goal] Yeah, it could be the goal of the season. It was like Lionel Messi was transformed into a centre-back! Fantastic goal.

Match report: Liverpool 1-0 Real Madrid
Ultimately it was not about who was back at Anfield but what was back. The Liverpool of Arne Slot’s title-winning debut season was the answer and, for the second November in succession, Real Madrid did not have one of their own.
Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in last season’s 2-0 defeat of the Spanish giants – though giant is not an accurate description of their latest performance on Merseyside – and settled the reunion of the European heavyweights as Liverpool, all controlled aggression and clear intent, ignited their Champions League campaign and quite possibly their season.
Another clean sheet and set-piece goal added to Slot’s satisfaction on a raucous, reaffirming night at Anfield. Xabi Alonso’s team were a distant second all night. Trent Alexander-Arnold, his mural near Anfield vandalised earlier in the day, entered in the 81st minute to a chorus of boos.

Xavi Simons gives the Spurs reaction
We’re very happy with the three points and the performance. The most important thing was to bounce back from last weekend.
Everyone wants to play well. I’ve come into a new situation, it’s never happened to me before, and I have to keep working. My teammates have my back so I’m not worried about that. I know what I can bring to the team and I will never let my head drop.

Match report: Tottenham 4-0 FC Copenhagen
It was the moment when the Tottenham home crowd could forget about their recent frustrations and lose themselves in the joy of it all; the glorious release. Their team had been too good for Copenhagen, who showed virtually nothing – certainly not in a positive sense.
Spurs were 2-0 up after Wilson Odobert’s goal but there was a glitch when Brennan Johnson, who had opened the scoring, was sent off in the 56th minute. The foul was more clumsy than sinister yet when the referee, Erik Lambrechts, was advised to go to the pitchside monitor, Johnson’s night was over.
Enter Micky Van de Ven. The centre-half has become synonymous with the swashbuckling and he was at it again when he seized possession on the edge of his own penalty box and started to motor. It was a blur as he left four Copenhagen players in his wake before entering the other area and blasting home. Game over.

Full time: Paris Saint-Germain 1-2 Bayern Munich
Bayern make a statement of Champions League-winning intent by beating the reigning champions on their own patch. They were sensational in the first half, when Luis Diaz scored twice, but the game changed just before the break when Diaz was sent off for a horrible challenge on Achraf Hakimi. We don’t know for sure but it looked like Hakimi, who turned 27 today, suffered a serious ankle injury.
Joao Neves’s improvised volley gave PSG hope and they pressed incessantly for the last quarter of the game. By hook or by crook, Bayern’s 10 men held on – and their coach Vincent Kompany ran onto the pitch to celebrate with his team at the final whistle. As league-stage wins go, that’s a biggie.

Half time: Paris Saint-Germain 0-2 Bayern
We don’t know the exact nature of Hakimi’s injury but it looked nasty, ligament damage at best, and he is replaced by Senny Mayulu.
Luis Diaz scores both goals for Bayern, who played magnificently against the European champions, before he was sent off for a scissor tackle on Achraf Hakimi. Could be a lively second half.

Red card! Diaz sent off
45+5 min: Paris Saint-Germain 0-2 Bayern Munich Luis Diaz, who scored both Bayern Munich goals, has been sent off after a VAR review. He was trying to get the ball but both feet were off the ground and he trapped Hakimi’s ankle in a horrible position.
Bayern’s players are furious and think it’s a reaction to the injury rather than the challenge.
