Tom Cleverley faces angry Plymouth fans after defeat to Wycombe in the FA Cup First Round extends his side’s winless run.
It’s a fourth straight defeat: for the Pilgrims, with a Cauley Woodrow brace in the game at Adams Park makes it five games without a victory, but also goalless in their last three matches (all 2-0 losses).
In League One, they also sit 22nd with 13 points from 14 games played, 9 of them being defeats.
So you can understand why the travelling supporters made their feelings known at the end of the game on Saturday.
Cleverley admitted frustration is “justified,” vowed to “work as hard as we possibly can” to turn form around, but warned it “could take a long time.”

The Plymouth fans made their feelings known at the conclusion of their FA Cup first-round 2-0 loss at Wycombe this evening.
10 defeats in 19, which includes four consecutive losses.
Wanderers did not look in trouble at all, and could have easily got double-digits.#PAFC pic.twitter.com/FXCoX8MTN0

In a video, a Plymouth fan is heard asking him: “What are we going to change it around, Tom?”, to which he responded, “Work as hard as we possibly can.”
Cleverley added, “With our performances, it’s justified to be frustrated,” and then said “I’m big enough to take that,” on the anger from fans at full time.
He said to BBC Radio Devon: “This ain’t an overnight fix, let me tell you that for absolute sure. This is not a magic wand moment – this is a long, hard, painful road that will take months, will take transfer windows, and I’m willing to roll my sleeves up and be part of that.
“[It was] a hugely disappointing performance.
“We wanted a reaction from our last three league games, we needed a reaction and I think we were nowhere near it in any aspect today. We were, to a man, well beaten.
“We competed, but physically not at the profile of our opposition.
“From a quality perspective I thought they were much better than us. We didn’t show any confidence on the ball, we didn’t show any good technique.
“I’ve really focused recently on a defensive perspective but, from a quality perspective, we were so far off the level.”
“We’ve not dealt with disappointment well.
“That’s the area where I’ve really seen a hangover from two years of losing a lot of football matches – when we do go behind there seems to be a bit of an acceptance of that.
“So that’s been disappointing and it’s a mentality we need to change.”
Here’s how Twitter users reacted as Tom Cleverley faces angry Plymouth fans after defeat to Wycombe in FA Cup extends their winless run…
@chapperslfc14:
“Sack the board”
“We’ve had enough”
“Sacked in the morning”
“We want cleverley out”
“Tom cleverley your football is shit”
“You’re not fit to wear the shirt”
Clear as day on the radio. Sort it out
@EvanGale5: One way ticket to League Two. Beat Liverpool and Brentford last season in this competition. Now we can barely muster a shot against Wycombe Wanderers – Cleverley out.
@MattCory95: YOU’RE NOT FIT TO WEAR THE SHIRT!!!!! Shove that statement where the sun doesn’t shine too!!
@Dan10PAFC: 14 mins+ against ten men and didn’t even do enough to get a tweet? Absolute shambles.
@Ollie_Haggart: Enough now. The experiment has failed and it ends now. The club is a mess, and the last thing that is needed is to alienate even more of the fanbase than you already have. Get it done, and get it done NOW.
@connor_mh: Absolutely mad lot Plymouth, travelling with unreal numbers every away game and having to watch an absolutely awful team! I’m pretty sure their first and only shot was in the 97th minute 😭
@RogGorst2: Sack the board, sack Fox, sack the manager – we want our club back 💚💚
@alex_jrobertson: At least last season when we had a relegation battle, we had a slight FA Cup run to ease some of the pain. Don’t even get that this time. How have we let this happen twice. This isn’t just a manager issue, this is a player and an operational issue. #pafc
@Strouty_1990: SHOCK !!! More cards than shocks another penalty conceded !!! Manager no clue players are the worst I’ve ever seen at the club and that’s including when we were in admin no hope no clue no leadership
@NeilRutherfor13: Martin Gritton summed it up in 1 word …. PITIFUL… spot on mate …. The most gutless spineless clueless bunch of wankers to ever wear the badge … disgrace and it’s getting Worse each week
@lwestlake7: 3 games all losing 2-0! No goals scored leaking goals over the field, NO shot on target, no service to our striker! Utterly shambolic and shameful! Get your act together, it’s turning sour and nasty now!!!! 🤬
@VinceRennie: @Argyle fa cup last season… beat Brentford away, beat Liverpool at home, go 1-0 up away to Man City. Argyle fa cup this season… 1 shot against 11 man Wycombe, 1 shot on target against 10 man Wycombe #pafc @SimonHallett TC OUT, BOARD SORT OUT THE CLUBS PRIORITIES!
@FashGang: Hallett out. Cleverly out. Fox out. Enough is enough. I feel bad for the traveling fans who turn up whilst those sack of shit players don’t. Banter club.
