TNG Digital Sdn. Bhd., the operator of TNG eWallet, Malaysia’s preferred digital financial services platform and lifestyle app, has announced the appointment of Syed Zaid Albar (pic) as its chairman and non-independent non-executive director, effective 17 October 2025.
Syed Zaid is a senior lawyer with experience across a broad range of practice areas, with a strong focus on financial services and corporate advisory. As a co-founding partner of Albar & Partners, he has established himself within Malaysia’s legal landscape, particularly in debt capital markets and equity finance, including Islamic finance. His contributions have earned him multiple recognitions for involvement in notable capital market transactions.
Syed Zaid stepped away from legal practice in 2018 to assume the role of executive chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), a position he held until mid-2022. During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening governance, regulatory oversight, and the development of Malaysia’s capital markets, both domestically and internationally.
As chairman, he represented the SC in various capacities at both the local and international levels. Domestically, his key responsibilities included representing the SC as a member of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Financial Stability Committee and as a member of the board of trustees of the Financial Reporting Foundation.
Internationally, he served as a board member of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of IOSCO, and the Asean Capital Markets Forum, comprising heads of capital market regulators from all ten Asean jurisdictions. His primary focus was to promote the integration and development of capital markets within Asean. He rejoined Albar & Partners in early 2023 as a senior partner, taking on an advisory and professional development role.
Syed Zaid currently serves as chairman of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, and Touch ‘n Go Sdn. Bhd., and has previously served on the boards of numerous public-listed companies, including Yinson Holdings Berhad, Cycle & Carriage Bintang Berhad, Malaysian Pacific Industries Berhad, and Malaysia Building Society Berhad, reflecting his longstanding commitment to corporate leadership and governance.
TNG Digital welcomes Datuk Syed Zaid’s appointment, reinforcing the company’s commitment to strong governance and strategic leadership as it continues to build a trusted, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem that drives Malaysia’s digital financial services sector forward.
To mark the appointment, Alan Ni, CEO of TNG Digital, said, “We are delighted to have Syed Zaid as chairman. His leadership and depth of experience will be invaluable as we continue to build Malaysia’s leading digital financial services and lifestyle app. With more than 24 million users, we are committed to delivering greater convenience, security, and access—driving financial inclusion, serving the underserved, and advancing the nation’s digital economy.”
He added, “Syed Zaid’s leadership will further strengthen TNG Digital’s foundation for long-term growth, supporting the nation’s journey towards a more connected and financially inclusive digital economy.”
