Denver is among my favorite cities—it’s hard to go wrong with a thriving culinary scene and stunning natural scenery. So when I found out that cool, Western-inspired hospitality brand Urban Cowboy planned to open an outpost in Denver, I jumped at the opportunity to check it out. It seemed like a perfect match, as the hotel company, known for its locations in Nashville and New York’s Catskills, is all about bespoke designs and cozy atmosphere.
As I stepped past the wooden gable and ornate columns of the National Register of Historic Places-listed building, it was clear that Urban Cowboy Denver doesn’t blend in. The 1886 Queen Anne-style, red-brick mansion is a glaring departure from the contemporary gray buildings that line Grant Street in the city’s Capitol Hill district. Inside, the walls are lined with original burgundy wallpaper and ornate Bavarian woodwork. And the staircase, with its intricate carvings of flowers, gargoyles, and swans all across the balustrade, took my breath away.

I was greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and handed my room keys (you know, the silver-plated Skeleton kind you actually have to insert in the lock). Before heading upstairs to unpack, I sat in the intimate Parlor Bar near the living room area, sipping my drink and soaking up the Western Americana-inspired decor.
Urban Cowboy Denver, with just 16 rooms, has whimsical charm, maximalist design, and a lovely restaurant and bar in the heart of Denver. Here is my complete review of Urban Cowboy Denver.
The Rooms
The 16-room Urban Cowboy Denver is a small but mighty addition to the city’s hotel scene. It offers a variety of room categories—from the standard Pony Suites, which feature queen-size beds with Wright mattresses, to the Honeymoon Suite, the largest in the hotel, with a duo of striking copper tubs looking out over the city.
Every guest room boasts a unique character and style, thanks to thoughtful details like the custom wallpaper created by Pittsburgh-based artist Clinton Van Gemert.
I stayed in one of the eight Superior Suites, dubbed Milk and Honey, which has an open-floor plan with a small living area, a fireplace, and green trumpet flower wallpaper. I felt right at home—there was plenty of space to spread out and relax.
To enhance their experience, rooms are stocked with fun local snacks, bubble bath, and adult products that are available for purchase.
Food and Drink
Public House is Urban Cowboy Denver’s hub for food and drinks. As of this spring, it hosts Little Johnny B’s, a new dining concept by Denver’s Mamas & Papas Hospitality Group, which serves wood-fired pizzas with sourdough crust and shareable plates of warm Castelvetrano olives and burrata cheese offered with house-made focaccia.
“We’re creating a menu that feels authentically Denver—unpretentious yet thoughtfully crafted. Our commitment to sourcing from local and regional producers and farmers allows us to showcase exceptional products, all while maintaining the Italian-inspired culinary traditions that are at the heart of what we do,” Lulu Clair, Mamas & Papas Hospitality’s co-founder and operations director, tells Travel + Leisure.
