Vicki Buholz and I warmed up at 8:30 this morning for nearly an hour then went back to my apartment for a while…I played at 11, and Vicki and Luisa Gouveia were scheduled for 1pm so they came back later. I played Jeannette Elly of New Zealand who was super nice. I won pretty quickly (she was counting the points), and then invited her for a drink. She’s playing four tournaments in Europe on her trip and is taking public transport everywhere. She played in France, then is playing these two tournaments in Austria, before going to Frankfurt and then flying home from Paris. All on her own.
I saw my opponent Sylvia from yesterday and today did get a photo of us together. She had very long match with Heike Heimentz of Germany finally winning 6-4 in the third (after Heike rallied from 2/5 down and at 15/30 failed to call an out ball…but Sylvia hits flat and hard so it’s hard to call her balls at times). Heike then had to play doubles, which she won…after two long three setters in 2 days and doubles she must be a bit tired! I play Heike though on Saturday.
I have the day off tomorrow and play my final round of singles against Heike on Saturday morning. Vicki and I will also play doubles either tomorrow or Saturday…they made the draw today of three players and we got a bye and play with winner of Luisa/MJ Pachl and Jeannette/Catherine Morgan.
Vicki played Luisa (much later than 1pm though) and won 63 61, and they played through a pretty strong shower…these courts can hold a lot of rain. She plays tomorrow against the woman Luisa beat 62 60 yesterday.
MJ Pachl from Florida lost to Ellen Neumann from Germany 2,1 but the last game was a long one…something like 8 match points before Ellen finally won.
Robert Anderman, USA advanced in the men’s 85 round robin; Bruce Barrett, USA lost last night in three sets (indoors).
