Tensions mount at Fulham as reports emerge regarding hierarchy’s stance on Marco Silva

Tensions mount at Fulham as reports emerge this week regarding the hierarchy’s stance on their manager Marco Silva.

Alex Crook, Ben Jacobs, Sean O’Brien state that Fulham are considering Marco Silva’s future amid contract uncertainty with his deal expiring at the end of the season.

Silva is ‘reluctant’ to sign a new deal, having previously voiced his frustration over the club’s lack of spending and admitted he ‘expected more’ from their summer transfer window.

Fulham currently sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, following a 2-0 defeat at Everton, meaning they have lost six of their opening 11 matches, with the hierarchy worried, yet it comes weeks on after club owner Shahid Khan said that Silva was part of the club’s long-term plans.

Speculation persists after summer links to Al Hilal, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest, with Silva called Saturday’s performance “very disappointing.”

Fulham have now lost five consecutive away Premier League games for just the second time under Marco Silva, after also doing so between November 2023 – January 2024.

Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett says: “Harry Wilson’s contract expires in the summer and has interest from other clubs, but Marco Silva has spoken this season of his desire to tie him down to a new deal.

“Leeds tried to sign Wilson on Deadline Day and they would remain keen again in January as they look to strengthen their squad for a battle against relegation, but a move for him is currently deemed unlikely.

“Fulham would like to make their own additions in January too, especially the central midfielder they wanted in the summer, and another winger might also be on the cards should they be close to losing Adama Traore.

“Money is believed to be tight at Craven Cottage though, given the costs of the new riverside stand and the club-record £34.6m outlay made on Kevin in the summer.”

Fulham boss Marco Silva, speaking to BBC Match Of The Day after their 2-0 defeat against Everton: “I think we got what we deserved. We played the first 20 mins of the second half – nothing more. It’s not good enough at all. We didn’t cope. It’s a moment for us to blame ourselves and look at ourselves in the mirror.”

On substitute Rodrigo Muniz being subbed off: “Like all the teams we need all our strikers for the demands of the Premier League. The impact (from him) was good in the first moments. But after he felt something again (injured).”

On Josh King: “He is a player that has been very good all season. Nothing new this afternoon.”

Silva told Sky Sports: “Today was not good enough in terms of performance or result.

“It’s definitely a disappointing afternoon for us, and we got what we deserved; it’s as simple as that.”

Reflecting on the game, Silva said his team only showed their true quality for a brief spell after the break and couldn’t maintain the competitiveness needed to get a result.

“We didn’t start well, and for the first 20 minutes of the second half, we played in a way that reflects our identity.

“You can always win or lose football matches, but you have to be competitive, and this afternoon we were only competitive for about 20 minutes of the game.”

“Not good enough, it’s a disappointing afternoon”

Tensions mount at Fulham as reports emerge regarding the hierarchy’s stance on Marco Silva, this is what fans are saying…

@OllieNobes91: We should be doing everything we can to keep him. Best manager since Roy by a mile. Sticky start to the season doesn’t mean we need to be reactionary. Multiple mitigating factors behind the results #ffc

@keithcropper1: Sacking him doesn’t solve anything. That club is a mess and he’s been the only thing right in the last few years.

@NWalshamWhite: Oh @TonyKhan, this was the summer to back him and back him early. If you’d have done that he’d have signed a new deal too and we’d be looking at another productive season. But here we are, in your totally, and undeniably, incapable hands. Any danger of a real DoF??? #FFC

@Here4TheFulham: Really really stupid to consider this at this stage of a season. Particularly because this board won’t have a succession plan, because they are morons. Silva isn’t the issue, the owners are. No one will do better than what Marco’s done whilst they are in charge #ffc

@mattybourne19: On one hand, it would be a huge loss after everything he has done achieved with the club since he arrived. On the other hand, it does almost feel like some questions may need to be asked regarding possible stubbornness towards team selections, substitutions and performances.

@esbarnard_: if this is true (hope it’s not) I can’t imagine a bigger misstep. silva has constantly overperformed with fulham – when he took us out of the championship we were instantly stable in mid-table, after years of yoyo. not a perfect manager but surely the best we can get

@jordymaui: coming to terms that this is 100% over now. the way we’ve setup recently to the fact he hasn’t even signed a new deal or acted interested in signing one. constantly declined other jobs weirdly but perhaps he’s running the contract down to chill? who knows but he’s gone. #ffc

@cpaul_ffc: Not taking Ben Jacob’s word for it just because he has a blue tick, but this as we know it will be the official end of Fulham Football Club. If resigns then fair enough, but sacking him will be the ultimate fucking disgrace.

@francis__ffc: We have Sunderland, spurs, city and palace next up 😂 in all honesty it’s looking bleak can’t see points against them 4

@CareyNicholas: Controversial but as much as I love him and what a legend he has been for Fulham I do think he’s taken us as far as he can which i said before a ball was kicked this season. This season has been shocking. I blame the board mostly but Marco has got a lot wrong this season.

@mbffc: It’s a results based business, and Silva has been lacking in results for a considerable amount of time now.

@opinions_fc: Most stupid thing ever if they sack him. I’d happily let him walk at the end of the season regardless. Always was too good for us and the ungrateful fuck wits on the board. Fuck Ali Mac. Fuck Tony Khan.
