Tahota Law Firm has opened an office in Suzhou to increase its presence in the Yangtze River Delta region as part of the firm’s nationwide strategy.

With the addition of Suzhou, Tahota now operates 34 offices in China and worldwide. Earlier this year, the Qingdao and Pakistan offices were also launched.

Gu Wei, executive director of the Suzhou office, will lead the office to advise clients on real estate, urban renewal, cross-border investment and financing, IP securitisation, digital economy compliance, healthcare and life sciences, and government-related legal affairs.

Previously, Gu was the executive director of Suzhou-based Tinghong Law Firm, focusing on construction engineering, real estate, financing, corporate matters and M&A.

The Suzhou office would work closely with the Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou branches to form an integrated legal services network across the Yangtze River Delta, supporting Suzhou-based enterprises in their international expansion and assisting foreign companies entering the local market, said Xu Zhengping, a member of the management committee at Tahota’s Chengdu headquarters, at the office’s opening ceremony on 8 November.

Currently, dozens of leading law firms headquartered in Beijing and Shanghai have established branches in Suzhou, including King & Wood Mallesons (2008), AllBright Law Offices (2011), Dacheng Law Offices (2012), DeHeng Law Offices (2014), Grandall Law Firm (2015), Tian Yuan Law Firm (2020), Commerce & Finance Law Offices (2023) and Grandway Law Offices (2024).
