Tahota Law Firm has opened an office in Almaty, marking a new chapter in the firm’s global development in Central Asia.
The firm now operates 36 offices worldwide, including new locations established this year in Suzhou, Qingdao and Pakistan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Bai Li, managing director of Tahota’s Urumqi office, said the new branch was an important step in supporting China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and advancing legal co-operation. She added that Tahota aimed to use this opportunity to build a bridge for China-Kazakhstan legal services.
Almaty, a city directly governed by Kazakhstan and formerly the nation’s capital, is the country’s largest city and serves as its economic, cultural and technology hub.
During the ceremony, Tahota signed several agreements, including a framework co-operation agreement with a local law firm, legal service agreements with five Chinese enterprises operating in Kazakhstan, and a talent development co-operation mechanism with universities in the country.
In recent years, Central Asia has become one of the main destinations for Chinese law firms expanding overseas. In addition to Tahota, several Chinese peers have already established offices in Almaty, including DeHeng Law Offices (2018), Zhong Lun Law Firm (2019), Jingsh Law Firm (2023), Yingke Law Firm (2024) and China Commercial Law Firm (2025).
