Suspect Arrested After Shooting At Kentucky State University

Kentucky State University placed on lockdown after campus shooting; suspect in custody as authorities respond to active aggressor incident.

One suspect is in custody following a shooting at Kentucky State University (KSU) on the afternoon of Tuesday December 9, 2025, prompting a campus-wide lockdown and emergency response from local law enforcement.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident and that some individuals sustained injuries. “At this time, we are aware of some injuries,” Beshear said. “We will share more information as available.” It is not yet clear how many people were hurt or whether there are any fatalities.

Officials described the situation as involving “an active aggressor” on campus. Police, KSU campus security, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to contain the threat. In a statement on Facebook, law enforcement confirmed the campus had been secured and a suspect detained.

The KSU campus spans more than 1,000 acres and enrolls over 2,200 students, supported by roughly 450 faculty and staff. Campus officials did not immediately provide details on the identities of the victims or the suspect, citing the ongoing investigation.

Governor Beshear asked the public to keep those affected in their thoughts and prayers while law enforcement continues to gather information. “We are grateful for the swift response of our first responders,” he said.

University authorities instructed students, faculty, and staff to follow safety protocols and remain indoors until authorities declared the campus secure. Emergency services on the scene conducted a thorough sweep of the area to ensure no additional threats were present.

Shooting incidents on university campuses in the United States continue to raise concerns about security, prompting increased safety measures and preparedness drills nationwide. Institutions emphasize the importance of rapid response coordination between campus security and local law enforcement to minimize casualties and restore order quickly.

KSU officials have promised updates as more information becomes available and urged the community to remain alert while refraining from spreading unverified reports. Authorities are expected to provide additional details regarding the suspect’s motive, any injuries, and the timeline of events in the coming hours.

The investigation is ongoing, and campus operations remain temporarily disrupted as law enforcement completes its assessment of the incident.
