Aaron Rodgers did not appreciate getting tackled by offensive lineman Broderick Jones after throwing a 68-yard touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freirmuth in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s 33-31 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals, a moment that quickly went viral.
On Monday, Jones told reporters that all was well between the two men and joked that he might tackle Rodgers in celebration again:
The optics of Rodgers getting so visibly upset with Jones didn’t look great in the moment, given the celebratory nature of the tackle, but the reality is that the veteran quarterback is 41 years old and trying to avoid as many big hits as possible to avoid wear and tear on an aging body.
He can’t avoid the inevitable hits he’ll take from opposing defenders, but limiting the ones he takes from his own teammates is well within Pittsburgh’s control. It’s a lesson that was likely reinforced by the team’s coaching staff after the game, though it sounds as though there isn’t any remaining animosity between the pair.
