After Sheff Wed 0-3 Sheff Utd, Chris Wilder condemns a ‘vile’ chant, with fans on the wind up and some troubling scenes on matchday.
Tyrese Campbell found the net twice (first assisted by Callum O’Hare after a high press, second after Sydie Peck’s interception), and then Tom Cannon came off the bench to make seal it with a deflected 20-yard strike.
Despite the victory, which is only their fourth of the season, Wilder’s side remain in the Championship relegation zone, now just one point from safety.
Administration-hit Owls, who were docked 12 points, are now on -4 points, stay rooted to the bottom, 18 points from safety.
There was heated scenes before, during and after the game, in the city, in the stands, outside of the ground. As seen in the video, police and stewards took action in the chaos that ensued.

Wilder spoke on abuse aimed at him, his daughter, and family – with one about having a party when he dies. Objects were also thrown on to the pitch at Sheffield United players.
Wilder said: “I think there’ll always be the Chris Wilder bit [with fans] and there were a couple of naughty chants, by the way, which is absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, it went across the line – but there you go. But that’s part and parcel of it.”
He added: “I think the feel around the city was that this could be the opportunity [for Wednesday] – and maybe people in the stadium didn’t realise how good we can be.
“And we had to prove all those things, all those attributes that you need to prove to win a game of football.
“I think the football people will walk away and go ‘they’re a decent side them and if they can put it together, they’ll start climbing the table’. But opinions and views are opinions and views. We’ve got to go and do the business and go and make that happen.”
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told Sky Sports:
“We got the result we wanted. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re showing good signs.
“Another clean sheet, which is great for us. The errors we’ve made this season, we’ve been punished severely for them.
“We were clinical, could have been even more clinical. The goals were really pleasing. We’ve got quality and we’ve got quality coming back – Hamer, Arblaster, Chong, Davies.
“We feel we can recover it, we’re not happy with the results we’ve picked up.
“It’s a good group to work with, but most of all I’m delighted for the supporters. It’s been a tough few months with losing at Wembley and not going up with 92 points.”
He told Sky Sports: “I spoke to Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan after the game. I think they’ve been an incredible credit to their football club.
“Those two have been the heartbeat. They’re in a difficult situation but they still ran us hard.
“For Henrik (Pedersen) and those two guys, an awful lot of credit should go to them.”
“We have to decide the direction of our journey,” Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.
“If we take a step back then we are going to get hurt but if we are on-it and we use the work that we have done… it’s a good group.
“I think it was game-on for us today. Maybe some people didn’t realise how good we could be and we had to prove that.
“I think the football people will walk away saying we’re a decent side and that if we can put it together we’ll start climbing the table.
“Opinions and views are opinions and views – we’ve got to go and do the business and make it happen.”
“One win doesn’t make a season, but if we can decide the trajectory of this journey, then we’ll be competitive in this division” 👊

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen:
“We are all disappointed. It was not the performance we hoped for today. We got a good beginning and then we conceded a transition goal. Afterwards, we struggled a little bit with the belief, with the trust to have the ball, to move the ball quick enough.
“In the second half, after five minutes we conceded. We struggled to find the last pass, to have the last crossing, the last movement. We lost to a better team today.”
Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield:
“It was not the performance we hoped to give all the fantastic fans in Hillsborough today – we lost to a better team.
“We struggled a bit with belief to move the ball quickly enough, and I think from the defensive perspective we were not as dominant as we often are with our pressing.
“We had the ball I think 64% in the second half, but we had it from our own goal to the last 20 metres of the opponents’ half and we struggled to find the last pass.
“How do we break the defensive line of the opponent? It’s a theme of the season – the purpose of having the ball is to create chances, but I promise we’ll work a lot on this to be better.”

Player of the match Tyrese Campbell, for his two goals, tells Sky Sports:
“The gaffer summed it up as he said he does not need to motivate us for this one. The boys were up for it, everyone was sharp, focused.
“Training has been good during the international break, we worked hard and we got our rewards today.
(On whether this result can ignite the season): “Definitely. We don’t want to be fighting at the bottom, we want to be at the top. Hopefully we can go on from here and win some more points.”
Sheffield United’s Tom Cannon speaking with Sky Sports:
“It meant a lot. It’s been hard coming to a new team in January. It’s took time to come in and settle. I’ve had a few set backs with injuries. To get that goal means the world.
“We know how much it means to the fans. To score in this game is surreal.
“I always back myself regardless of the situation. I have full self belief. I don’t listen to any negativity. Stay tunnel visioned.”
