- Strong partnerships & on-ground engagement aim to drive SME growth & digital transformation
- CelcomDigi empowers Sabah SMEs with hands-on digital tools & new 5G business opportunities
CelcomDigi Berhad continued its nationwide MY5G SME Digital Workshop in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with practical tools to accelerate digital transformation. Now in its third year, the 2025 edition combines hands-on workshops and on-ground engagements for greater impact.
With the theme “Scaling New Heights with Sabah SMEs,” the Sabah workshop was supported by a strong network of strategic partners, including Bank Simpanan Nasional, Funding Societies Malaysia, G & A Group, Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, MDEC, SME Bank, SME Corp Malaysia, TikTok Shop, and others, reflecting a united effort to strengthen the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Building on these collaborations, this year’s workshops introduced three new experiences — Business Matching, enabling entrepreneurs to network and explore collaborations; TikTok Shop Live Streaming, offering hands-on guidance to create and launch live content; and Arena Usahawan, a one-stop hub connecting entrepreneurs with funding, grants, and ecosystem support. Each initiative was designed to address real business needs and empower SMEs to grow with confidence.
Championing Sabah’s entrepreneurial spirit, CelcomDigi extended its reach beyond the workshop through Skuad 5G SME Edition — conducting on-ground visits to engage directly with local business owners at Kota Kinabalu’s Central Market, Segama Commercial, Gaya Street, and Segama Complex. These visits provided valuable insights into SME challenges and digital opportunities, enabling CelcomDigi to offer more targeted, practical guidance.
Drawing from these insights, the workshop featured homegrown success story Adam Shamil — digital creator, founder and CEO of Chunk & Dunk, and a well-known Sabahan influencer. Adam shared how creativity, culture, and digital tools fuelled his success, inspiring local entrepreneurs to embrace digitalisation and build content that reflects Sabah’s unique identity and opportunities.
Sharing his perspective on the importance of digital adoption, Afizulazha Abdullah, chief enterprise business officer of CelcomDigi, said, “Through on-ground insights and direct SME engagement, we’ve designed this programme to inspire, equip, and connect entrepreneurs. Digitalisation is no longer optional — it’s the key to unlocking growth. As their trusted digital partner, we’re helping SMEs take meaningful steps toward long-term success.”
Following the Sabah workshop, the MY5G SME Digital Workshop will conclude in Kuching. CelcomDigi invites local entrepreneurs to join and gain hands-on skills, connect with industry partners, and discover how digitalisation can elevate their businesses.
Launched in Kuala Terengganu, the nationwide programme has since travelled to Penang, Johor Bahru, and Sabah, reaching entrepreneurs across Malaysia and targeting 1,500 participants by year-end.
