RPC strengthens IP, technology in Singapore with new partner

Jeremiah Chew, partner at RPC Premier Law

RPC has hired partner Jeremiah Chew as a partner for its Singapore office, where it operates a joint law venture RPC Premier Law, to enhance its intellectual property (IP), technology and competition capabilities in Asia.

“The rapid adoption of AI has created novel issues around IP ownership and infringement, and Jerry is well placed to advise clients on these emerging issues given his experience,” Navin Joseph Lobo, partner and head of the Singapore office at RPC Premier Law, told Asia Business Law Journal.

He also noted that the expansion of digital platforms and markets has drawn increasing scrutiny from competition regulators. With Chew’s dual strengths in technology and competition law, he would be positioned to guide clients through the regulatory and commercial challenges in this space, said Lobo.

Chew has joined RPC from Norton Rose Fulbright where he served as a counsel, advising clients mainly on non-contentious commercial and transactional matters. Before that, he worked as a director at Ascendant Legal, Norton Rose Fulbright’s associated law firm in Singapore, where he led the IP and competition team.

Chew specialises in IP, technology and competition law. His expertise covers IP registration, licensing and portfolio management, regulatory and transactional work, technology and business process outsourcing, data privacy, and AI adoption. He also advises a diverse clientele, including financial institutions such as banks, insurers and fintech companies, as well as technology providers ranging from software developers to e-commerce platforms and digital service companies.

At RPC, Chew’s primary focus would be on advisory and transactional matters involving IP, technology and competition, said Lobo.

Chew’s extensive experience on multi-jurisdictional matters would further deepen our cross-border IP and technology offering, while strengthening our Singapore law capabilities, he added.

Lobo also said Chew would bolster the firm’s client support, given his experience acting for Chinese clients.
