Manchester City duo Rodri and Rayan Cherki both trained as Pep Guardiola’s side prepare to face Monaco in the Champions League.
Midfielder Rodri missed Saturday’s 5-1 win over Burnley because of a knee problem. Cherki, meanwhile, has not featured since the August 23 defeat because of a thigh issue. The former Lyon attacking midfielder played in all four of City’s game at the Club World Cup but has featured only twice since because of the injury.
But both appear in line to feature as City travel to the principality to take on Monaco at the Stade Louis II, having started their league phase campaign with a 2-0 win over Napoli.
Rodri and Cherki set to return
Rodri and Cherki were each seen taking part in the final training session before City’s departure for Monaco, providing Guardiola with a welcome boost for a tricky away tie.
Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is nearing a return from Achilles surgery, however, Guardiola is still without three key players, with Abdukodir Khusanov (foot), Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) and Omar Marmoush (knee) all sidelined.
Monaco were beaten 4-1 by Club Brugge in their Champions League opener and lost 3-1 to Lorient at the weekend.
City were famously knocked out by Monaco on away goals in 2017 at the last-16 stage, Kylian Mbappe scoring in a 3-1 second-leg win as the tie ended 6-6 on aggregate. Monaco went on to reach the semi-finals.
