Retailetics launches Malaysia’s first smart-cart shopping experience with Village Grocer, it only took eight years

  • Built to enhance convenience, up engagement, unlock revenue opportunities for retailers
  • Founders Manirajah Kulanthavelu, Shaji Rajappan invested US$242k and raised US$1.21m via SAFE funding

Retailetics Sdn Bhd, a retail-technology innovator from Malaysia announced the official launch of ezyCart today, its self-developed, patented, next-generation smart shopping cart, with Village Grocer in Kuala Lumpuras its first deployment partner.

Launched in 2018 by Manirajah Kulanthavelu and Shaji Rajappan, the company described the collaboration as a milestone in transforming the Malaysian grocery shopping experience—bringing convenience, personalization, and seamless checkout directly to the cart.

The first rollout begins at Village Grocer 1 Mont Kiara (1MK), which will serve as the anchor store for the rollout. Additional Village Grocer locations are scheduled to be equipped with ezyCart by mid–Q1 2026, expanding the smart-cart experience to more shoppers across the country.

With ezyCart shoppers can scan, shop, and pay directly on the cart, eliminating the need to queue at traditional checkout counters. The cart includes smart sensors, a built-in payment module using NFC, and a user-friendly interface that guides customers through their shopping journey.

“Our collaboration with Village Grocer demonstrates how brick-and-mortar retail can evolve to meet the expectations of modern consumers,” said Manirajah, the CEO. “ezyCart is built to enhance convenience, elevate engagement, and unlock new revenue opportunities for retailers.”

In a statement Village Grocer’s management said, “The introduction of ezyCart aligns with our ongoing mission to create a more enjoyable and efficient shopping experience. We’re excited to be the first to bring this innovation to our customers at 1 Mont Kiara and more stores by mid-Q1, 2026.”

Bootstrapping since its launch, Manirajah said the founders have raised US$1.21 million (RM5 million) via Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) since 2021. Prior to the external funding, the founders invested US$242,000 (RM1 million).

Manirajah is a pioneer in Malaysia’s e-wallet space, who in 2018 sold his startup, Webonline dot com Sdn Bhd, which operated, Web Cash to listed company Green Packet Bhd, which subsequently renamed the wallet to Kiple Pay.

A new way to shop—no queues, no hassle

Beyond convenience, ezyCart enables retailers to engage customers in real time while they shop. Through the cart’s interactive display, retailers can:

  • Improve operational insights through real-time analytics and shopper behaviour data
  • Push personalized promotions and product recommendations
  • Enable cross-selling and upselling at the point of decision
  • Deliver gamified shopping experiences that reward shoppers instantly
  • Each store having its own dashboard to view report and real time transaction

With an eye to expanding regionally, the company has applied for and granted patent protection for Malaysia and the US markets in Jan 2025 with Australia granted in Nov 2025. It is patent pending for India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and the EU.
