Real Madrid have decided not to continue their pursuit of Ibrahima Konate, according to The Athletic. Konate is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, and Madrid have been keeping tabs on the situation of the France international centre-back.
‘The Athletic can reveal the La Liga side have informed their Premier League counterparts directly and unequivocally that — despite such heavy speculation — they now have no interest in recruiting the France international,’ the report claimed.
Konate has been on the books of Liverpool since 2021 when he joined from RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old central defender has scored six goals and given four assists in 150 appearances for the Reds so far in his career.
Liverpool are 12th in the Premier League table at the moment with 18 points from 12 matches, three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Madrid currently find themselves a point clear of second-placed Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table after 13 rounds of games.
