Vitor Pereira urges Wolves players to fight for their places, with the side still without a win after seven league matches for the second straight season: “At this moment we have internal competition in positions and everybody needs to understand they are competing and we cannot offer the positions.
“They need to fight for their positions.”
He added, per Express & Star: “I had a conversation with everybody and explained the reasons.
“We are trying to get results, I’m trying to find solutions and I will change the system.
“I’m trying to find a balance between my ideas and the players I have at this moment.
“I’m trying to be fair every day. Of course, sometimes I’m not, but if a player is working well his chance will come.
“With the decisions I make, my message to them is that if you work hard every day, you are on my list.
“I’m looking at your work and I believe the players that are not playing now in the first XI will have the chance to play again, for sure.
“I have a very good group. Since the beginning I’ve spoken about their personalities, I don’t have any problems with the players, just honest conversations to explain the decisions.
“Sometimes, of course, they don’t understand because they think they are better than the other one, but this is their opinion and I have mine.”
Barclays Manager of the Month shortlist
Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
P3 W2 D1 L0 GD+4
Arteta’s Arsenal faced a tricky set of September fixtures, but the Spaniard steered his team through the month unbeaten, beating Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest, rescuing a late draw against title rivals Manchester City and leaving it even later to grab a turnaround victory at Newcastle United that took the Gunners up to second in the Premier League table.
WINNER – Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)
P3 W2 D1 L0 GD+2
Glasner’s side are the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season. They began September with a 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland, but quickly turned on the style, recording back-to-back victories against West Ham United and Liverpool. Before Crystal Palace played Liverpool, the Reds were the only team with a 100 per cent record, however, Glasner’s brilliant in-game management was displayed as he brought on Eddie Nketiah, who scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner.
Pep Guardiola (Man City)
P3 W2 D1 L0 GD+7
Guardiola’s Man City were the league’s entertainers, scoring a league-high nine goals and only conceding two. Man City recorded a memorable 3-0 Manchester derby win, which they followed up with a resolute defensive display in a 1-1 draw at Arsenal before ending the month with a 5-1 thrashing of Burnley.
Regis Le Bris (Sunderland)
P3 W1 D2 L0 GD+1
Le Bris’ Sunderland continue to defy expectations in their first season back in the Premier League, going unbeaten through September to end the month fifth in the table. The Black Cats conceded only one goal all month, and that was in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa when they were reduced to 10 men. Sunderland held unbeaten Crystal Palace to a goalless draw, while they ended the month by beating Forest 1-0 at City Ground.
