Orrick strengthens Tokyo energy team with new partner hire

Akira Takahashi, partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Akira Takahashi as a partner in its energy and infrastructure (E&I) team in Tokyo to enhance support for Japanese clients investing across Asia.

Takahashi, qualified in Japan and New York, has joined the firm from German multinational energy company RWE Renewables, where he served as a Tokyo-based senior legal counsel. Prior to that, he worked as a counsel at A&O Shearman as part of an 11-year career with the global firm. His experience covers technologies such as offshore wind, solar, liquefied natural gas, hydropower and energy storage.

He has also advised on international energy projects and project finance transactions. At Orrick, he will work closely with the firm’s Tokyo and Singapore teams to support Japanese export credit agencies, insurance providers, development banks, trading houses and commercial lenders in their investments across Singapore and Southeast Asia.

With his arrival, Orrick has added 15 partners to its global energy and infrastructure platform this year, and the firm now has nine E&I partners across Tokyo and Singapore.
