BUDAPEST (ANP/AFP) – From the end of 2027, a ban on the import of Russian gas will apply to the entire EU. Hungary does not accept that decision, said Orbán on Friday. His government is taking the matter to the European Court of Justice.

Hungary, like Slovakia, is still heavily dependent on Russian energy imports. Hungary is also pro-Kremlin.

This is yet another clash between Budapest and Brussels. Hungary regularly uses its veto power in the EU or threatens to do so regarding new EU sanctions packages against Russia. EU decision-making is thus delayed or obstructed if Hungary’s demands are not met.

Orbán is also against financial support for Ukraine and does not want that country to join the EU.
