Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brussels Airlines unions held a protest over the dismissal of 3 flight attendants. Van Camp of BBTK called it a “final warning” to management. Flights and operations were not affected.
As VRT News reported, unions at Brussels Airlines held a protest today, Oct 25, 2025, after 3 flight attendants were dismissed. The protest did not affect flights or airline operations. Union representatives said the action was meant to inform staff about the dismissals and highlight employee concerns.
What led Brussels Airlines unions to protest 3 flight attendant dismissals without disrupting flights?
Union spokesperson Van Camp said the protest was a “success.” Around 50 employees joined, handing out flyers and showing support for the dismissed staff. He stressed the protest was organised carefully so passengers would not be affected during the busy autumn holiday period at Brussels Airport.
According to the union secretary of the socialist employee union BBTK,
“the ball is now in management’s court.” If they don’t respond, a strike notice will be issued.” A warning to management. “Now it’s up to you.”
Unions at Brussels Airlines are seeking consultations on the airline’s “not fit to fly” procedure. The flight attendants had refused a flight to Ghana after reports from the cleaning crew of insects, including fleas and bedbugs, on the plane. Brussels Airlines later said the report was a false alarm and the aircraft was safe to operate.
No strike notice has been filed so far. The unions said a notice could be submitted on Monday, Oct 27, 2025, if management does not hold talks. After a seven-day waiting period, any strike would be legally covered. The 3 dismissed attendants have announced they are taking legal action.
A similar incident occurred at Brussels Airlines in 2013 when flight attendants refused to operate a flight to Africa after the cleaning crew reported possible bedbugs on board. The airline later confirmed the report was a false alarm and the aircraft was safe to fly. The 2013 case also sparked protests by unions and led to discussions about the airline’s “not fit to fly” procedure.
