Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says Tino Livramento’s eight-week recovery forecast is “good news” but the wait for Yoane Wissa’s debut will be “slightly longer”.
Defender Livramento previously suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during his time at Southampton, leading to fears of a prolonged spell on the sidelines when the full-back was stretchered off during Newcastle’s defeat by Arsenal at St James’ Park on Sunday.
The 22-year-old subsequently missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s squad for England’s upcoming internationals against Wales and Latvia.
No player has played more minutes (646) in the opening weeks of Newcastle’s Premier League season than Livramento.
“He went to see a specialist a couple of days ago because the scan maybe looked better than we initially thought,” Howe said.
“The specialist confirmed it’s roughly an eight-week injury.
“A blow to lose him, but for what it could have been, it is good news.”
