The American president, Donald Trump, should make direct contact with the European countries that continue to import Russian oil.
These are countries with which he already has a good relationship.
This is the statement from Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at the Social Democrats’ annual meeting in Aalborg on Saturday afternoon.
– There are European countries that keep importing, she initially states.
– Moreover, these are countries with which he has some contact, so I hope he will exert his influence directly in the countries that have a different energy policy than we do from the Danish side.
For example, Hungary and Slovakia still import oil from Russia, and here there are heads of state with good relations with Donald Trump.
On Saturday, Donald Trump made a strong statement against NATO.
He is willing to sanction Russia if the rest of the NATO countries also take more steps against Russia.
Specifically, he mentions that several NATO countries still import Russian oil.
– As you know, NATO’s engagement in winning has been far from 100 percent, and some countries’ purchases of Russian oil have been shocking, he writes on his social media platform Truth Social.
– This greatly weakens your negotiating position and negotiating power against Russia, Trump further states.
Mette Frederiksen points out that, in her view, the American president is kicking in an open door.
He is indeed completely in line with the Danish position.
– I actually agree with the president on this, she says.
She further explains that this is an issue that is addressed directly with the USA.
– This is something we discuss with the Americans.
