- Showcased three AI use cases enabled by Maxis’s fast, reliable connectivity
- Use cases highlight Maxis’s drive to future-proof industries and the public sector
Maxis Berhad highlighted its role as a key enabler of digital transformation at the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur (SCEKL) 2025, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and officially launched by the prime minister of Malaysia, Anwar bin Ibrahim. Through its B2B arm, Maxis Business, the company showcased artificial intelligence-powered solutions under the theme “Cities of Tomorrow Begin Today,” designed to address critical urban challenges.
The Maxis showcase was visited by the minister of digital, Gobind Singh Deo, who was briefed on how smart city solutions can accelerate digitalisation for local councils and enhance public services. Maxis’ digital transformation initiatives align with the strategic thrusts of the 13th Malaysia Plan, which identifies AI adoption as fundamental to national growth.
Prateek Pashine, chief enterprise business officer of Maxis, said:
“Smart cities are about using practical, scalable solutions to solve real urban challenges. Our deployment-ready use cases can enable more intelligent, efficient, and secure urban management for local councils and public service agencies, benefitting the communities they serve.”
“Maxis Business’ role as a digital partner is to empower both the public and private sectors by simplifying the adoption of these advanced technologies. We will continue to leverage our core strengths in connectivity, infrastructure services, and smart solutions, and work with our ecosystem partners to support Malaysia’s digital agenda,” he added.
The showcase featured three practical AI use cases, all underpinned by the company’s fast, reliable, and secure connectivity. These demonstrated how AI can address real-world urban challenges in public safety and traffic management, ultimately fostering more liveable and secure communities.
The first use case enhances road safety by automatically detecting unsafe driving behaviours such as mobile phone use or failure to wear a seatbelt. This capability helps identify high-risk areas and common unsafe practices, enabling more effective safety planning.
The second focuses on urban mobility, using automated vehicle identification to improve compliance with traffic, access, and parking regulations. This contributes to smoother traffic flow and more organised urban spaces.
The third centres on public safety, showcasing how real-time video analytics can enhance situational awareness and enable faster incident response times in public safety operations.
These next-generation use cases demonstrate Maxis Business’ commitment to ensuring industries and the public sector are future-ready. This is achieved through integrated connectivity and digital solutions, including AI, cloud, the internet of things (IoT), managed services, and cybersecurity, all powered by Maxis’ advanced mobile and fibre network.
Maxis’ smart city showcase reflects its belief that “Tomorrow Begins Today.” This purpose guides the company’s mission to connect people, businesses, and communities to the possibilities of tomorrow with world-class connectivity and innovative solutions, actively supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation.
