Marc Cucurella would consider shaving off his flowing locks if Spain win the World Cup

Marc Cucurella has hinted he would consider cutting off his flowing locks and go bald if Spain win the World Cup next summer.

The Chelsea full-back is renowned for his long, curly hair but says it could disappear if Luis de la Fuente’s side can claim the trophy in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Cucurella dyed his hair red following Spain’s European Championship success in 2024.

Asked what his plan would be next, he told Sport: “Good question! I could do anything but I would say it quietly in case it happens.

“I could change my dye or maybe I would go bald!”

La Roja closing in on World Cup spot

Spain can clinch qualification for the World Cup this week when they take on Georgia and Turkey and Cucurella is hoping to get the job done as soon as possible.

“We are still a little step away,” he said, despite Spain having a 100% record in Group E. “We have been perfect in qualifying, but if we are not immersed in these two games it can escape from us.

“We hope to clinch it on Saturday in Georgia and then enjoy it with our people in Seville on Tuesday.”

Yamal situation is complicated – Cucurella

Much of the build up has been overshadowed by the withdrawal from the squad of Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal.

Yamal was forced to pull out after his club carried out a medical procedure on the morning of his scheduled arrival in the national team camp with the Spain medical team saying they were unaware of the situation.

It has left the teenager in the middle of a row between the Spanish champions and the Spanish FA but Cucurella says he just needs to focus on what he does best.

“It’s a complicated topic,” admitted the left-back. “It won’t be easy for him, many players and many of my team-mates have groin pains. We will miss him, he is a very important player for us. The most important thing is that he recovers because a very nice year is coming.

“The most important thing is that he enjoys his football, that he continues to do what he has done so far, that he does not listen to the criticism.

“Let him play football as he knows. He has a bright future, he is very mature despite how young he is. If he is focused and enjoys the game, it is very difficult to stop him.”

Cucurella set to face Yamal

Cucurella could be in direct opposition to Yamal when Chelsea play Barcelona in the Champions League on November 25. The 27-year-old says he is confident the West London side can claim a famous victory.

He said: “They [Barca] don’t have much defensive solidity and when you concede goals, it’s more difficult to win games. But Barca are still Barca and they have great players.

“It will be a very difficult match but we also have a great team. It has come at a good time and we can get the three points.”
