AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who was injured in a crash caused by a truck crashing into a bridge over I-35 in Georgetown died from his injuries, his family and their attorneys shared on Thursday.

Jonathon Scott Morgan was struck by concrete when the overpass bridge collapsed as he was driving under it on Sept. 2, according to his family’s attorneys. He turned 42 in the ICU just days after the crash.

Kayatta, with Tinsman & Sciano, said Morgan’s family hired their team to seek legal action against the truck company Austin Underground Incorporated and Alan Collins, the truck-tractor/trailer operator, accused of crashing into the bridge.

“The Morgan family, through their attorneys Daniel Sciano & Kimberly Kayatta, of Tinsman & Sciano, are heartbroken to share that on the evening of Tuesday September 9, 2025, Jonathon Scott Morgan succumbed to his injuries and peacefully passed away. Jonathon was surrounded by his loving parents, brother and sister-in-law, young niece, and so many other close friends as he fought in the ICU.”

The family had already filed suit against Collins and Austin Underground, and now they’ll be seeking wrongful death damages for what they called the “tragic and wholly preventable death of Jonathon Morgan.”

The law firm Thompson Coe said it is representing the truck company and driver and released the following statement earlier this week:

Austin Underground and Alan Collins are saddened by the unfortunate events and send their sincere condolences to all affected by the incident. The company is currently undergoing an investigation to fully understand how this incident occurred.  Due to the pending litigation, we cannot make further comment at this time.

Morgan’s parents, Mike and Linda Morgan, and his brother Ben, shared the following statement:

“He was just a wonderful, wonderful man who was committed in his faith and service to his church and so, so involved in his family. He was just the best son, brother, and uncle you could ask for. He was a deep and faithful Christian, and we were so grateful to have him. We desperately miss our Jonathon, and his loss has created a huge hole in our family, and not just our family but everyone who was in his life, and we will never be same.”

The Morgan family’s attorneys said in a press release that the tractor, trailer, and excavator have not yet been released by the Georgetown Police Department. They added that as the investigation continues, they “are committed to finding justice for the Morgans and getting answers as to how this preventable tragedy occurred.”
