Rohan Arasoo Jeyabalah, partner and leader of the new employment advisory and litigation practice at Adnan Sundra & Low
Kuala Lumpur-based Adnan Sundra & Low (ASL) has established a dedicated employment advisory and litigation practice as part of the firm’s broader litigation strategy, and has hired Rohan Arasoo Jeyabalah as an equity partner to lead the new team.
ASL’s joint managing partner Putri Norlisa Najib told Asia Business Law Journal that the launch of the new practice aligned with the firm’s expansion of its specialist dispute capabilities, and reflected the increasing importance of employment and industrial relations issues within its client portfolio.
“With the recent amendments to the Employment Act 1955, expanding employer obligations and enforcement exposure, we see an opportunity to support clients who now face more complex workforce‑management risks,” said Najib.
Najib added that the expanded scope of the Employment Act, mandatory flexible‑work request procedures, increased protections for employees and more assertive enforcement by the authorities were creating new compliance pressures for employers.
“Clients increasingly require practical, defensible solutions, whether in managing investigations, handling dismissals, navigating collective bargaining, or implementing compliant HR (human resources) frameworks that align with both statutory requirements and business realities,” said Najib.
She added that Jeyabalah’s experience across advisory and contentious employment matters positioned the firm to meet these needs effectively.
Jeyabalah has joined ASL from Malaysian law firm Harold & Lam Partnership where he was a partner for a decade. He specialises in employment and industrial relations as well as construction and engineering, while also practising civil and commercial dispute resolution such as contractual, land, tortious and banking and financial disputes, defamation and general debt recovery.
He has appeared as counsel at all tiers of the Malaysian judicial system including the Industrial Court and in arbitrations, and has also acted as counsel in adjudication disputes under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012.
Besides leading the new ASL practice, Najib said Jeyabalah would also work closely with Kevin Prakash, head of the firm’s construction and engineering disputes practice given that his expertise also extended to construction and engineering.
