Liechtenstein v Wales – Line-ups, stats and preview

Match Preview for Liechtenstein v Wales

Wales travel to Vaduz on Saturday knowing this may be their final chance to stay in the race for automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup.

While a play-off place is practically secured through last year’s Nations League results, Craig Bellamy’s side must win and hope Belgium slip up in Kazakhstan to keep any realistic hope of topping Group J.

More likely, Wales are fighting North Macedonia for second place and the advantage of hosting a play-off semi-final next March.

That task has become trickier after three straight defeats, including last month’s 4-2 loss to Belgium where an early lead quickly unravelled.

Bellamy has been clear that nothing will be taken for granted, and the focus remains firmly on getting back on track in Vaduz.

Liechtenstein, meanwhile, are already consigned to last place. They were beaten 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in June, part of a run of six straight defeats in Group J without scoring a single goal.

Ranked 206th in the world, they have lost all four previous meetings with Wales and look set for another difficult night.

Team news for Liechtenstein v Wales

Wales are again without several senior figures. Ben Davies misses out through injury, joining Ben Cabango and Kieffer Moore on the sidelines. Aaron Ramsey, Connor Roberts, Danny Ward and Wes Burns remain unavailable, though Dan James returns to the squad after recovering fitness.

Joe Rodon is expected to marshal the visiting defence, having scored against both Liechtenstein and Belgium earlier in the campaign. Brennan Johnson, Mark Harris and Nathan Broadhead are competing for the central attacking role.

Liechtenstein must cope without defender Jens Hofer, who is suspended due to accumulated bookings. Veteran midfielder Nicolas Hasler will make his 108th international appearance and captain the side.

In attack, Ferhat Saglam, Dennis Salanovic and Willy Pizzi are the main options as the hosts search for their first goal of the qualifying cycle.
