Lewandowski hits treble as Barca cut Real’s lead

Robert Lewandowski marked his return to the starting XI with a hat-trick as Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 4-2 to cut Real Madrid’s lead at the top of La Liga to three points.

Veteran Lewandowski took his tally to seven league goals for the season as Marcus Rashford picked up two more assists from the left wing in a fine display.

Lamine Yamal scored Barca’s fourth goal as they found victory despite twice conceding equalisers to Sergio Carreira and Borja Iglesias.

Real’s goalless draw earlier on Sunday opened the door and Barca took advantage – though midfielder Frenkie de Jong managed to get sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.

The result halted Celta’s five-game winning streak across all competitions.

Lewandowski, who has missed playing time this season because of injury, hadn’t scored for Barcelona since September in a league win against Real Sociedad.
