Talking on TNT Sports on the Leeds v Tottenham graphic with a KFC bucket: “Yeah, it’s my girlfriend. She’s doing it. And you know, it’s just funny for us. Of course, you need to be careful today because some fans, they take it too serious or you’re not focused on the game, but for us it’s nice, for my family and my friends. We keep going, so hopefully we win today.”
Interviewer: “Because we get used to seeing so many generic posts, I guess, from players. Why is that important for you, just to have that fun with it and really show your personality?”
Anton: Because, like you said, I have many friends who play football and every day when it’s Saturday I see all the stories and it’s all about magic graphics and it’s all the same you know and yeah I’m not like this I like humour and my girlfriend likes it as well and so we thought about let’s do something different maybe it’s nice and then maybe some people the most important thing is about the people, our friends you know and then when they see a story of me they’re like oh yeah that’s funny that’s nice and maybe makes their day and of course makes our day and so I think it’s a nice feature.”
BBC Radio Leeds’ Jonny Buchan asked: “What is your social media about? We’ve seen Family Guy, we’ve seen Minecraft, all different sorts of elements to your social media. Explain it to those of us who might not get it.”
Anton: “Yeah, I think I started it when I was at Hoffenheim with my girlfriend. It’s all about her because she’s doing it.
“She studied 3D design and management. I see on Instagram the match day graphics and it’s all the same and after the games and then we thought it would be funny to put some edits inside, maybe it’s funny for my friends and for my family as well and before the games.
“Sometimes we try to put like the nickname of the opponents into it. It’s not every time so easy but sometimes we do it and otherwise she’s just creative and what’s in her mind and then I’m laughing every time.”
Jonny Buchan: “Do you sit there and come up with ideas together then or do you just let her do it? you just trust her to do it?”
Anton: “No, we sit around with each other and then we’re talking about it but most of the time she decides it and of course I have some ideas, especially after the game when we get the pictures and then I’m looking, ah, look this picture, maybe this one is good and then she’s doing some crazy stuff inside and I’m always laughing.”

Earlier this year, the media asked Stach about his posts, where he explained: “We started it one year ago. My fiancee, she was doing it, and because, of course, I have many friends playing football and always, the graphics (after the game on clubs’ and individual players’ social media accounts) are: ‘Oh, good game. Three points’. We wanted to create something different.
“Maybe people laugh about it and they want to look at it after the game, and it’s funny, but the first reason was it was funny for us. Some people like it, some people don’t like it, but yes, we will do it in the future as well.
Following a goalless draw at home to Newcastle, he posted a picture of himself wearing a sombrero and carrying maracas, with it captioned: “Hola muchahos. Just to clear things up: I’ll be dropping edits after our wins and sometimes after a draw as well. Every now and then, I might skip one, depending on the vibe, but the idea is to share the good moments with you.”
Amar Singh, a senior vice-president at MKTG Sports and Entertainment, which works with brands in football and their partnerships, was previously head of content at West Ham, and works with companies on how to use social media, spoke to The Athletic on Stach’s posts: “It’s refreshing. We all know, with footballers, people are generally quite fatigued by the sort of generic posts: ‘Wasn’t our day today, but we go again next week’ or ‘Three points’. You could almost have a generic list of about 20 captions for them to pick from. People crave authenticity. They want to know what players are really like. You’ve got to give credit to him for trying something different.”
Ehsen Shah, founder of B-Engaged, who also worked with footballers on their off-pitch marketing and social media creation, said: “You know what? Someone reposted it (one of Stach’s posts). I sent it to a couple of my colleagues and, me personally, I absolutely loved it.
“You obviously get people that just kind of love to hate generally, but that’s how the world goes, right? My initial thought was: ‘This is quite interesting’. It made me go on his profile and check him out a little bit more. He’s been doing it for a while. I thought it was a one-off thing when he’s come into the Premier League, but I found it quite amusing and comical.
“Judging by his explanation about his fiancee, seeing him laughing about it, that’s what you want, right? You want someone to be enjoying themselves and expressing themselves, but unfortunately, the way the football world is, the majority can’t do it.”
Having less time or a lack of interest in posting personal content due to getting grief from online trolls is seen as a reason ‘why someone would or wouldn’t do it’ according to Shah.
Yet with Stach, he’s worked his way up from a lower-profile club in Hoffenheim, with the supporters liking and understanding his personalty.
Shah adds: “When you’re at Hoffenheim, you go under the radar. You kind of get away with it, right? You’re able to do it in a way where, if the fans understand who you are and what you’re about, there’s no pressure at Hoffenheim. They’re not one of those clubs where one bad game means the whole world’s falling apart. If he was at a Bayern Munich or a Borussia Dortmund, he wouldn’t be able to get away with it so much.“With Leeds, back in the Premier League, you can capitalise on it.”
Singh said: “He’s got a bit of help from his partner. It’s not really the footballers themselves that would necessarily have the time to do this on matchdays. You need to have the right people around you.
“It sounds like a unique situation — a quirky personality who wants to have a bit of fun.”
