US-based King & Spalding has launched a Sydney office to strengthen its global cross-practice capabilities and support Australian and multinational clients across the Asia-Pacific.

Darren Gardner, leader of King & Spalding’s global human capital and compliance team and managing partner of the Sydney office, told Asia Business Law Journal that it enjoyed extensive relationships with Australia-based clients, working with them across many of the firm’s practices and offices.

“A presence on the ground in Sydney helps us further solidify these relationships and opens doors to more opportunities,” said Gardner.

King & Spalding currently has more than 30 Australian and Australia-qualified lawyers across its transactional, regulatory and litigation practices in offices spanning the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and the US. Among them are partners based in Sydney who handle complex commercial litigation and arbitration, cross-border energy and technology transactions as well as global workforce matters, providing a direct connection to the firm’s global platform.

Gardner said these lawyers were important for cross-border mandates stemming from and involving Sydney.

The firm also had a selection of practice areas, including transactional, regulatory, energy, disputes, tech, global human capital and compliance, where it could support Australia-based clients, said Gardner.
