The ability to quickly deploy and utilize military personnel is a “crucial insurance policy for European security.” This was emphasized by EU foreign chief Kaja Kallas on Wednesday.

BRUSSELS (ANP) – “You hope that you never have to use it at full capacity, but it provides for a more credible deterrence and defense,” said Kallas during a press conference where the European Commission’s proposal for military mobility was presented.
“We need to ensure that the armed forces are in the right place at the right time,” Kallas said. “The faster we can move troops, the stronger our deterrence and defense. We need to talk about days, not weeks.” The Commission wants diplomatic approval for military transport to a neighboring country to be granted within a maximum of three days, instead of the current maximum period of 45 days.
“Infantry wins battles, logistics wins wars,” quoted European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius (Defense) a former American general at the press conference.
“Speed is a cornerstone of defense and deterrence,” Kubilius said.
With the proposals for military mobility and strengthening the European military industry presented on Wednesday, Europe is not preparing for war, Kubilius emphasized. “Europe is preparing for peace. Europe wants peace. But first, we must be ready for war.”
