IndiaAI and WHO invite innovators worldwide to submit scalable AI projects, advancing ethical, inclusive digital health solutions for developing nations.
India and the World Health Organization (WHO) have launched a global initiative inviting innovators to develop scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for healthcare, with a focus on the Global South. The collaboration underscores India’s ambition to become a global leader in ethical and inclusive AI adoption.
The program, led by the IndiaAI Mission, seeks abstracts highlighting AI applications that can strengthen health systems, improve patient care, and drive digital transformation. Selected submissions will be featured in a “casebook” of practical AI health solutions, scheduled for release at the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
“Jointly developed by IndiaAI and WHO, this casebook will serve as a reference for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners seeking to replicate successful AI initiatives worldwide,” the Ministry of Electronics and IT said.

India has positioned itself at the forefront of responsible AI governance by joining the HealthAI Global Regulatory Network (GRN), enabling collaboration on safety standards, clinical monitoring, and regulatory frameworks. Officials emphasize that AI systems must be designed to respect local contexts, ethical norms, and data sovereignty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the transformative potential of AI in health, education, and agriculture. He called for open-source platforms, unbiased datasets, and safeguards against cybersecurity threats, disinformation, and deepfakes. “Technology must be rooted in local ecosystems to be effective,” Modi said.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is also exploring AI for financial inclusion and fraud prevention. Deputy Governor T. Rabi Sankar highlighted tools such as MuleHunter.AI, deployed in 20 banks to prevent digital fraud, and a Digital Payments Intelligence Platform (DPIP) under development for real-time transaction risk analysis. He emphasized integrating ethical standards and risk frameworks alongside innovation.
With initiatives spanning healthcare, finance, and digital skills development, India aims to set a model for emerging economies in leveraging AI responsibly. By promoting indigenous AI solutions and inclusive governance, the country seeks to ensure technology serves public interest while fostering economic growth.
This global push positions India as a hub for responsible AI in the Global South, providing a blueprint for how developing nations can adopt scalable, ethical, and culturally relevant AI solutions.
