Once you’ve collected a haul of Capital One miles, it’s time to start brainstorming how you’re going to redeem them.
Here at TPG, we often discourage holding on to your miles. They can be a bad long-term investment, so it’s best to start thinking of redemption options as early as possible.
While we often recommend transferring your Capital One miles to one of the issuer’s 15-plus transfer partners to maximize their value, that’s not always the best idea for every situation. You may find an exceptionally cheap travel deal, be too busy to chase award availability or want to keep your miles flexible in Capital One’s ecosystem.
If you value simplicity, your Capital One miles can go quite far. That’s because you have multiple fixed-value redemption options with which you can redeem your miles for travel purchases, experiences, gift cards, cash back and more.
Here’s what Capital One cardholders should know.
Capital One miles: Fixed-value redemption options
Here are the fixed-value redemptions you can make with Capital One miles:

Capital One’s website states that the following purchases are generally considered travel for the purposes of covering past purchases, but notes that availability is based on the category that the merchant assigns:
- Airlines
- Bus lines
- Car rental agencies
- Cruise lines
- Hotels
- Limousine services
- Rail lines
- Taxi cabs
- Timeshares
- Travel agents
When you redeem miles for Capital One Entertainment purchases, gift cards or online shopping with Amazon and PayPal, you’ll receive 0.8 cents per mile. Redeeming miles for cash back nets the lowest fixed-value redemption, at 0.5 cents per mile.
Of course, you could always transfer your miles to Capital One’s partners to potentially get a higher redemption value. Per TPG’s November 2025 valuations, Capital One miles are worth 1.85 cents apiece, and transferring your miles to a loyalty program partner such as Air France-KLM Flying Blue could net you even more value.
For example, you can book a one-way ticket from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in Air France business class for 60,000 miles and $242.50 in taxes and fees. The full-price ticket would cost $2,158, which means you’d get about 3.2 cents per mile in value by transferring your Capital One miles to Flying Blue.
Still, this option requires more effort than the fixed-value choices we’ll detail in this article.

Book a trip through Capital One Travel
You’ll receive 1 cent per mile in value when you redeem Capital One miles to book flights, hotel stays, vacation rentals and rental cars.
All you have to do is visit the Capital One Travel portal and book travel. From there, you’ll see your choice of booking with cash or with miles.
CAPITAL ONE
Of course, you’ll want to remember that there are many benefits to booking directly instead of going through a portal like Capital One Travel. When you book directly, you’re guaranteed elite status perks (if you hold elite status) and will earn points or miles with a brand’s loyalty program.
However, this could be a good option if you’re staying at a boutique hotel or booking a one-off flight through an airline you don’t frequently fly with.
Regardless, if brand-specific perks are important to you, you’ll see that with our next option, you can book travel directly and still offset the cost with Capital One miles at a rate of 1 cent per mile.

Cover a recent travel purchase
This is the real game changer for travel enthusiasts looking to redeem Capital One miles at a fixed value.
You can book multiple types of eligible travel purchases and use your miles to offset the charge on your eligible Capital One card — as long as the purchase has been made within the last 90 days.
To access this redemption option, simply click “Cover travel purchases” on the Rewards page. You’ll see all eligible travel purchases here and can select how many miles you’d like to use to cover the cost.
CAPITAL ONE
Capital One broadly defines travel here, since you can redeem miles for everything from flights and hotels to train tickets, Uber rides, Airbnb stays and taxi rides.
Once you select the purchase you’d like to cover, you can approve the redemption outright or edit how many miles you want to use and receive partial credit toward the charge.

Capital One Entertainment
You can also redeem Capital One miles at a fixed value toward event tickets and experiences booked through Capital One Entertainment.
With this option, you’ll receive 0.8 cents per mile redeemed.
CAPITAL ONE
This isn’t the best option for maximizing your rewards, but it is a decent choice if event tickets take up a chunk of your budget.
However, we wouldn’t typically recommend redeeming miles this way since you’ll receive less than 1 cent per mile in value.

Gift cards
You can also use your Capital One miles to purchase gift cards for a variety of merchants, including Apple, Amazon and Airbnb. For most of these redemptions, you’ll receive 0.8 cents per mile.
CAPITAL ONE
However, you may notice occasional sales with certain brands — such as Adidas, Neiman Marcus or Uber — that would net you slightly higher value, depending on the deal.
Since there are many ways to buy gift cards at a discount, this is unlikely to be the best option for redeeming your Capital One miles.

Shop online through Amazon or PayPal
If you’re hoping to use your Capital One miles toward online shopping, you can elect to do so when checking out through Amazon or PayPal.
It’s important to note you’ll receive 0.8 cents per mile this way.
AMAZON
Because the redemption value is less valuable than using your miles for travel, we don’t typically recommend using your miles this way.

Cash back
Redeeming your Capital One miles for cash back is the least valuable option, since you’ll only receive 0.5 cents per mile when you choose this route.
CAPITAL ONE
You can choose to receive your cash back as a credit toward your statement or as a check by mail.
However, we generally do not encourage this option since there are plenty of other ways to receive more value for your hard-earned miles.

Bottom line
While you can potentially maximize your Capital One miles by transferring them to loyalty partners, redeeming your miles at a fixed value is a fantastic choice for beginners or cardholders who value simplicity above all else.
This is also a good option for anyone who wants to redeem their miles to save on purchases unrelated to travel, such as Amazon purchases, gift cards for holidays or concert tickets.
With multiple redemption options offering varying values, it’s worth considering your choices before you redeem your miles.
