The highly-anticipated free-to-play Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode launches in mere hours. EA dropped the news on social media Monday.
The Battle Royale – awkwardly titled “RedSec” which is short for “Redacted Sector” – launches alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1, meaning gamers will not only have access to a host of new maps and weapons, but to an all-new Battle Royale.
This is also the first major attempt to contest Warzone’s dominance in the military FPS Battle Royale space, and early impressions from Battlefield Labs players have been glowing. The game’s name is based on the red zone that encroaches upon the map as matches take place, similar to the gas in Warzone. The big twist? If you’re even touched by this you’ll die instantly. No gas masks here.
When Does REDSEC Launch?
The new Battle Royale launches with Season 1 at the following times on Tuesday, October 28th:
- West Coast US: 8 am PT
- East Coast US: 11 am ET
- UK: 3 pm GMT
- Europe: 4 pm CET
There’s no word on whether you can preload the game or whether it’s simply an update within Battlefield 6 at this point.
There’s also no trailer yet, though the below trailer will go live at the same time as launch – an odd choice, but then this entire announcement is rather sudden.
REDSEC is not a great name and it’s particularly odd when Battlefield Royale is such an obvious choice! It’s right there, EA! Right under your noses!
No other information is currently available, though the map and plenty of other tidbits have leaked in recent weeks. How the game will interact with Battlefield 6, whether there will be cross-progression between the two, and how the Season 1 content will work between games is a mystery. At least we don’t have long to wait.
