Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A new children’s exhibition, “Good Journey” for ages 1+, has opened at Antwerp’s Red Star Line Museum. Visitors like Bart and Ludo enjoy hands-on activities exploring migration history creatively.
As VRT News reported, a new “Good Journey” exhibition for young children has opened at the Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp. The exhibition is aimed at toddlers and preschoolers from the age of 1.
It is based on the museum’s permanent collection but has been adapted for very young visitors. Children can touch and explore the objects freely. The exhibition offers a hands-on experience where children can discover the history of migration.
“The exhibition is designed for the very youngest,”
says Stijn Clarysse, communications expert at the Red Star Line Museum.
“It’s an exhibition about travel; children can discover everything that goes into a trip in a very playful and creative way.”
What’s new for toddlers at the Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp?
Visitors to the Red Star Line Museum are already enjoying the new children’s exhibition. Bart, a parent, said,
“We’ve only just arrived, but it’s already off to a great start. The children have been packing their suitcases as if they were going on a real trip. Now they are looking at a large map to decide which country they will visit next. I think they will be busy here for about an hour.”
“I think it’s very important to get children excited about museums. Art doesn’t always have to be boring for children; it can also be very playful and fun,”
says a visitor who is visiting the exhibition with her granddaughter.
Another visitor, Ludo, praised the museum for combining learning with play.
“We’ve already been to the Toy Museum and Technopolis, but this is the first time we’re visiting a museum with more history. Fortunately, it’s also very accessible for children,”
says visitor Ludo.
The museum is situated in the historic warehouses of the Red Star Line shipping company, and it shares the story of more than 2 million European emigrants between the years of 1873 and 1934 who travelled through Antwerp on their way to America. The museum has a permanent collection, and also has numerous exhibitions a year, as well as temporary exhibitions, to explore even more themes in migration and cultural history, amongst a myriad of other topics.
