Beijing-based boutique Furui Law Firm has hired Zhang Sijie as a partner to further strengthen its cross-border practice.

Zhang has 24 years of experience spanning international trade, outbound investment, M&A, maritime law and dispute resolution. He specialises in providing non-litigation legal services, ranging from company establishment and equity-structure design to daily operational management.

Before joining Furui, Zhang was a partner at Anli Partners and Dowway & Partners, and he previously practised with Zhong Lun Law Firm, Guantao Law Firm and Canada’s Blake, Cassels & Graydon.

Zhang has advised dozens of Chinese enterprises on overseas expansion, with clients across financial, real estate, technology, IT, healthcare and transportation sectors.

In dispute resolution, he has acted in numerous foreign-related litigation and arbitration proceedings, and has frequently advised overseas courts and arbitral tribunals on PRC law as an expert witness.

His representation in the maritime cargo dispute between STO Chartering Korea and Wilmar Trading, View Sino Oil and PetroChina International (East China) was named one of the top 10 typical maritime cases in China in 2022.

Furui was founded in 2022 by Hou Jinrong, a former member of the management committee and head of the Beijing executive committee at Anli Partners, with all six founding partners formerly at Anli. The firm focuses on high-end commercial legal services, including dispute resolution, bankruptcy and liquidation, and investment and M&A.
