Funding promised for ‘biotechnological revolution’

A new strategy from the EU Commission is being launched for a “biotechnological revolution.” It includes, for example, updates to regulations regarding bioplastics and building materials.

Brussels – The EU hopes for a “biotechnological revolution” with the help of simpler regulations and easier access to funding.

A new strategy from the EU Commission promises, among other things, a new investment group to piece together ideas and private financiers. Various permitting processes will also become faster and simpler.

“The bioeconomy is not science fiction. It is already here – and I am wearing it,” said Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall, dressed in a suit made of wood fiber, at a press conference in Brussels on Thursday.

The strategy includes, for example, updates to regulations regarding bioplastics and building materials and support for the production of biogas.
