Ferrari – Is Charles Leclerc the lone voice in a team of “yes men”?

Carlo Vanzini, the well-known Sky Sport F1 commentator, recently reflected on the situation at Ferrari, highlighting Charles Leclerc’s statements after Monza.

In a week, teams will return to the track for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Ferrari, coming off a somewhat challenging Monza weekend, will aim to bounce back and consolidate second place in the constructors’ championship. Some statements made by the Ferrari team and Charles Leclerc after the Italian Grand Prix prompted Carlo Vanzini, a prominent Sky Sport F1 commentator, to offer an extensive reflection on the state of the Scuderia.

Ferrari, a team of “yes men”?
Since 2007, the year of their last drivers’ championship, Ferrari has made numerous attempts to bring the title back to Maranello. However, these efforts have not been enough. Carlo Vanzini, in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, admitted: “My fear is that in a world driven by fear, because Ferrari isn’t winning now, my concern is that in fear, team members become yes men, afraid of losing their position, avoiding responsibility. That’s a bit of my fear.”

In a team at risk of being filled with “yes men,” Vanzini believes there is always one voice that stands out: “I was talking about Leclerc, who becomes the voice outside the chorus, because Hamilton is happy, the team received tons of applause behind the fence, a triumph at Monza. Lewis Hamilton went from tenth to sixth, happy. Then Charles Leclerc comes and says, ‘We’re missing the car.’ How? Everyone here is happy, smiling, and you say we’re missing the car? That’s becoming a problem. Because, pay attention, this is also seen in the workplace: sometimes someone’s excellence can be a problem.”

For the commentator, the focus that can drive a team toward success and resurgence is the ability to have constructive discussions: “The point is to see that the orchestra works and that there aren’t too many yes men. That there aren’t yes men, but that there are discussions, because they are the soul of success. If there are no discussions, it means everything is flat, or it means you are triumphing. But since you are not triumphing, discussions must exist, contradictions must exist.”
