We take a look at favourites to become new Wolves manager after a decision was made to sack Vitor Pereira following defeat to Fulham.
A disastrous start to the Premier League season has seen the club winless in their first 10 games and bottom of the table.
This marks the first time in Premier League history a team has gone winless in their opening 10 matches in consecutive seasons.
He leaves with a record of 38 games in charge – 14 wins, 5 draws, 19 defeats, with 0 Premier League wins for 2025/26; and only two victories in the Carabao Cup.
And we’ve seen plenty of fan unrest, aimed at the owners, the manager and the players, from heated confrontation with supporters and chants.
Pereira had only signed a new three-year contract extension back in September (until 2028), just over a month before his dismissal.
The club is now urgently searching for a new boss to avoid relegation, and some rather big fixtures coming up against tough opponents.
Vitor Pereira sacked by #Wolves and it was the only possible outcome after their start to the season. Club was determined to avoid the cycle of constant managerial change but results, team selection & the mood has forced them into another dismissal. More to follow @TeleFootball

Understand there was a clause in Pereira’s recently signed new deal allowing for a sacking without having to pay out the full contract.🐺 https://t.co/2wpvh06l3b

Vitor Pereira on defeat at Craven Cottage, per the club website
“I’m disappointed today. I’m not proud of my wok, of our work, because I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s because mentally, we put a lot of energy in the last game against Chelsea until the last minute.
“But what I realised today was a very difficult game for us, tactically, technically, physically. We played maybe one of the worst games that we’ve played. Even with 11 against 11, since the first minute the energy to move, the offensive dynamic, and the energy to press was not there.
“After five minutes, I started to realise that something is missing today. But the game was balanced, because even then, they were not playing in a high level. But after the goal, we tried to do something, but not in our level. After the red card, it was very difficult for us.”
On not having momentum from Wednesday night
“I’ve tried everything. We started the last game against Chelsea in 4-3-3, and after we realised that in 4-3-3 we were not defending in our level and we were not playing in our level. I changed the system and we were able to play in the second half.
“The second half was very good, in my opinion, and today we started as we finished the last game, but the dynamic was not there. Maybe because we played three games in a short space of time, so I tried to change some players from the last game.
“I changed a lot of players for this game to try to have energy to play against Fulham, but we didn’t play at our level today.”
On taking responsibility
“I’m trying everything. I’m trying everything to mentally keep the team in conditions to compete. I had very good feelings from the last game, especially the second half, but I don’t think two days was enough to recover for this game. But it’s my responsibility.
“I’m not a manager to put the responsibilities on the players, but together, we need to have a talk, and to assume the responsibilities together as a group because we cannot accept this level that we played today.”
On the supporters’ frustrations
“I understand because if I’m not proud with what we did today, they – for sure – will not be. I must accept it because they are frustrated and I’m frustrated too.
“I’m suffering because it’s my work and I do my best every time, as I did last season, but today, technically, physically and practically, we didn’t play in our level. It means that they come here to support us and thanks for them, but in the end, I understand their frustration.”
On his Wolves future
“I’m a fighter. I never give up. I’m not this kind of person. I will try my best in the next training to mentally recover the team, to tactically recover the organisation that we need for the next game.
“But today is a difficult game for this evaluation. If you look for the second 45 minutes that we play against Chelsea, I could tell you that they are together. They are fighting. They are fighting to try to turn over the situation, but I can’t today.
“We need to reflect about what happened today because it was not the team. Before this game, if you look for the Burnley game, if you look for the Sunderland game, one half of the time we played in a good level, and the other half of the time we struggled and didn’t play in our level. We cannot play one half in our level and the other half in a different level. We must be consistent.
“Today, in my mind, I thought we’ll go there – changing some players – and we can show that we can be consistent in a full game, but it was not the case.
“If I’m happy, I’m happy, if I’m proud, I’m proud, but I cannot represent that today. I am not proud. I am not happy, and we must play in a better level and we must give the answer in the next game.”
Keeper Sam Johnstone on defeat at Craven Cottage, per the club website
“It was frustrating. Embarrassing. It’s not good enough and we need to do better. We should be embarrassed, and they might not want to hear it, but we obviously apologise to the fans.
“We’re trying our best, but we have to keep going. We’ve got good players and we need to turn it around quickly.”
On what went wrong against Fulham
“Pretty much everything. We go down to 10 men quite early. We concede early, and then it’s difficult.
“It’s always difficult in the Premier League, so to have a man down and to not be on it, to try and get results.
“I’m being completely honest. I think pretty much everything went wrong.”
On the feeling inside the changing room
“It’s difficult to find the words. There’s a lot of emotions and it’s very difficult at the minute.”
Here’s how fans reacted amid the favourites to become new Wolves manager after a decision is made to sack Vitor Pereira…
@readingwolfWWFC: It’s the right decision. I actually feel quite sad for them though because he seems like a genuine bloke and he meant well #wwfc
@JB_F1_: No one with a brain and an ounce of ambition will come here #wwfc
@futwwfc: VP is the fall guy, but this mess, and the hopeless mess of the last few years, sits squarely at the feet of Jeff Shi. Until he is removed from his position, Wolves will not succeed as a football club. Fosun need to hear this loud and clear, Jeff Shi is out of his depth. #wwfc
@CJ_7171: Who would’ve thought shi’s decision to give another failing manager a long-term contract would backfire? 😂😂 yet another fuck up from our moron of a chairman whose job is simply untenable. Sacking Pereira is only a small remedy. The main poison needs to go too #wwfc
@MatthewMS94: Any normal club now would be appointing with a view to planning for the championship next season. So which unknown bargain basement Portuguese/middle east manager will these charlatans wheel out next 🙃 #wwfc
@SufferingWolves: Feel for Vitor! Did a great job last year, built a real connection with fans and the city that we hadn’t had since Nuno. Was left high and dry by the owners with a terrible squad. But in the end he completely lost his way and there was no choice but for him to go! #wwfc
How many staff at the club have ever spoken about the hierarchy in glowing terms? Do staff feel valued and encouraged? The mood of the club starts from the top.
VP another that failed in this environment. The house is rotten, new wallpaper won’t last, it needs gutting!
