Euro 2028 schedule confirmed with England set to begin campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The tournament takes places across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland from 9 June to 9 July 2028

The Euro 2028 schedule has been confirmed with England potentially playing their first fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

The Three Lions will kick-off their campaign at the home of Manchester City, where England have not played since 2016, should they succeed in the relative formality of qualification.

They are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley but their last-16 tie would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park should they win the group.

A second-place finish would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Wales, meanwhile, could feature in the opening match of the tournament at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff if they reach the finals, which will be held across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Hampden Park will host all three of Scotland’s group matches, with the same applying to the Republic of Ireland with the Aviva Stadium.

The competition involves 24 teams playing across nine stadiums in England, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, beginning on 9 June and concluding with the final at Wembley on 9 July.

All four host countries will enter the qualifying phase, however two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.

Debbie Hewitt, Football Association chair and also chair of UK and Ireland 2028 Ltd, said: “Today marks a proud milestone for football across the UK and Ireland as we celebrate the launch of Euro 2028.

“Working with UEFA and our football and government partners, we will deliver the best-ever Euro. It will be a tournament for the fans and a festival of everything we love about the game – its passion and ability to bring people together.”

The draw for qualifying will take place on 6 December 2026 in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time.
