Both Inter and AC Milan picked up crucial wins on Sunday evening…
The Serie A title race continues to tighten after Inter and AC Milan both secured wins on Sunday, closing the gap on league leaders Napoli.
Hellas Verona 1-2 Inter
At the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, Hellas Verona appeared on the verge of a historic first win of the season.
Inter struck first in the 16th minute when Piotr Zielinski converted a superb Hakan Calhanoglu corner with a well-placed volley.
However, Verona, undeterred, responded just before half-time as Gift Orban set up Giovane, who fired a thunderous right-footed strike into the far corner to equalise
Despite controlling the second half and limiting Inter’s attacking threat, Verona could not find a winner. In the sixth minute of added time, Nicolo Barella’s dangerous cross flicked off Martin Frese and into his own net, handing Inter a dramatic 2-1 win.
The loss extends Verona’s wait for their first league win, while Inter continue to hunt Napoli at the summit.
AC Milan 1-0 Roma
At San Siro, AC Milan faced a different challenge against Roma, who dominated possession in the first half.
Milan broke the deadlock in the 39th minute through Strahinja Pavlovic, who slotted home a low pass from Rafael Leao after a swift counter-attack.
Roma pressed relentlessly thereafter, earning a late penalty when Pellegrini’s free-kick struck Fofana’s arm, but Paulo Dybala saw his spot-kick expertly saved by Mike Maignan, diving low to his left
The win moves Milan to 21 points, level on points with Roma and Inter but ahead on goal difference, just one behind leaders Napoli, who remain at the top of the table.
