Dolphins Reportedly Listened on Jaylen Waddle Trade Calls, Eyed 1st-Round Pick, More

The Miami Dolphins held onto wide receiver Jaylen Waddle beyond Tuesday’s trade deadline.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Dolphins listened to offers for Waddle and wanted “a first-round pick plus.” The asking price was “too rich” for teams searching for a receiver, per Hughes.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz added:

Miami’s decision to keep Waddle isn’t a major surprise, despite the team currently holding a record of 2-7.

He’s just 26 years old and signed a three-year, $84.75 million extension with the Dolphins that included $76 million guaranteed during the 2024 offseason.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reported Oct. 18 that Miami had “no interest” in trading Waddle despite “several teams” calling about his availability.

The Dolphins selected Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft before he immediately made an impact in their passing attack, showcasing his talents as a deep threat.

The former Alabama standout hauled in 179 receptions for 2,371 yards and 14 touchdowns during the first two years of his career, averaging a league-leading 18.1 yards per reception throughout his sophomore season in 2022.

Waddle crossed the 1,000-yard threshold once again in 2023 before amassing 744 receiving yards during the 2024 season. While his production dipped last year, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed six games due to a concussion as well as hip issues.

This season, Waddle has caught 41 passes for 586 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.
