CUPW to replace nationwide Canada Post walkout with rotating strikes

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) says they will shift from a nation-wide strike to rotating strikes.

In a news release released late Thursday night, the union’s President says the change will occur on Saturday Oct. 11 at 6 AM local time.

“While this will start mail and parcels moving, while continuing our struggle for good collective agreements and a strong public postal service,” wrote Jan Simpson, the union’s president.

“We did not take the decision to move to a nation-wide strike lightly,” added Simpson. “Postal workers would much rather have new collective agreements and be delivering mail instead of taking strike action.”

Locals that will be rotating out will be informed closer to the time of when they will take action, according to the statement.
