could Pirelli’s softer tyres change everything

The Azerbaijan GP is approaching and with it come the first uncertainties that could overturn the predictions of teams and drivers. On the Baku street circuit, one of the fastest and most unpredictable on the calendar, Pirelli has decided to bring the softest tyre range available: C4, C5 and C6.

A detail that, at first glance, may seem secondary, but in reality could completely change the face of the race.

According to Pirelli, if the same tyre allocation from 2024 had been confirmed, the race would likely have been a predictable one-stop strategy. Instead, the introduction of softer compounds opens up completely new scenarios: the very real possibility of a two-stop strategy.

Between tyre management and Baku’s unknowns
However, Pirelli does not rule out that the teams could once again surprise everyone with their ability to manage the tyres effectively, keeping the single-stop option alive.
“This year, as we saw at Monza, teams and drivers have improved their tyre management. It is therefore possible that we will still see similar strategies, even if in Baku the long straights and very high speeds put the tyres under strong stress.”

The real question remains open: will we witness a Grand Prix entirely decided by extreme management, or will the risk of degradation force teams to change their plans?
