Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s long-serving president, Paul Biya, has publicly called on citizens to vote against her father in the country’s upcoming presidential election.
Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Brenda, known on social media as “King Nasty,” criticized her father’s leadership over the past 43 years. She accused the 92-year-old president of dragging Cameroon into economic stagnation, widespread unemployment, and persistent poverty. “Cameroon deserves a new direction,” she said, urging voters to reject his candidacy.
The appeal marks a historic moment, as it is believed to be the first time a sitting African president’s child has openly opposed their parent’s rule. Her comments have sparked intense debate on social media and in political circles, highlighting growing frustration among Cameroonians over decades of entrenched governance.
Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon since 1982, is one of the world’s longest-serving leaders. His presidency has long been criticized for authoritarian practices, alleged corruption, human rights violations, and disputed elections. Despite these criticisms, he confirmed his intention to seek an eighth term in the October 12, 2025, presidential election.

The best is still to come.”
In his declaration, titled “Declaration of Candidacy for the 12 October 2025 Presidential Election,” Biya emphasized his dedication to the security and welfare of Cameroonians. “Ensuring the well-being of the sons and daughters of our beloved and beautiful country is the sacred duty to which I have devoted my time and energy since assuming the helm of State,” he said.
Cameroon faces mounting economic and political challenges, including high youth unemployment, declining infrastructure, and ongoing tensions in the Anglophone regions. Brenda’s public criticism of her father is likely to intensify scrutiny of his long tenure and add a new dimension to the upcoming electoral contest, both domestically and internationally.
her unprecedented stance, Brenda Biya has thrust the family’s internal dynamics into the national spotlight, raising questions about the future of governance in one of Africa’s oldest-standing presidential administrations.
