Marriott Bonvoy’s free night certificates can be used to book a one-night stay in a standard guest room at any of the hotel’s properties worldwide. Free night certificates are capped at a certain points value, from 15,000 points to 85,000 points.
These certificates can be combined with up to 15,000 Bonvoy points from your account. Therefore, if you have an 85,000-point certificate, you can book a standard room worth up to 100,000 points.
So, how do you earn a free night certificate worth 85,000 Bonvoy points?
When you carry a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card or the Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card, you’ll receive an annual 85,000-point free night certificate.
Plus, for a limited time, new Bonvoy Brilliant cardmembers can earn 185,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 within the first six months of card membership. This offer ends Sept. 24.
The information for the Ritz-Carlton Credit Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

While nightly rates here start north of four figures, it’s a great place to redeem an 85,000-point award certificate. Points rates start at 88,000 per night, so you’d only need a few extra thousand points from your Bonvoy account to pair with the free night certificate. And unlike most resorts in Hawaii, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel doesn’t tack a resort fee onto the room rate — so if you plan it right, you could stay here without any out-of-pocket expenses.
Pro tip: Early arrivers to the Manta Restaurant for breakfast can enjoy the outdoor dining tranquility of Pacific Ocean views with the sound of tropical birds and gently crashing waves.

The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington, D.C.
MARRIOTT
The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington, D.C., is a Marriott Bonvoy enthusiast favorite. With just 86 rooms, this AAA Five Diamond-rated hotel used to be an incinerator — but now, it’s one of Washington’s premier hotels.
Guests enjoy views of the Potomac River from nearly all of the rooms. While cash rates technically start at $524 per night, most nights go for $800 and above; meanwhile, on the points-redemption side, rooms often start at 85,000 points per night. However, if you can’t find availability for exactly 85,000 points, you can always top off your certificate to cover up to 15,000 points for the night.
Pro tip: Stop by the lobby in the late afternoon for complimentary hot chocolate and premium snacks.

The Bodrum Edition
THE BODRUM EDITION/EDITION HOTELS
When you visit the Marriott website or see a credit card ad with dazzling views, you might think, “Wow, where is that?”
Odds are it’s the 108-room Bodrum Edition, an ultraphotogenic property on the banks of the Aegean Sea. The Bodrum Edition offers escape for travelers of all stripes; guests seeking relaxation can enjoy the resort’s Turkish hammam, while those looking for nightlife can jamboree in one of the two bars or visit the hotel’s nightclub.
The resort is closed from November through mid-April, so plan your stay accordingly. During the shoulder season, room rates start at just under 400 euros (about $470) per night, but peak summer dates reveal consistent room rates of over 1,500 euros ($1,762) per night. Depending on when you’re looking, this property could make an ideal candidate for your 85,000-point free night certificate.
Pro tip: Make time to enjoy one of the resort’s overwater hammocks. You’ll rock into a doze with curated Edition music and gentle waves.

JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa
NICKY KELVIN/THE POINTS GUY
If you want overwater bungalows and private plunge pools, look no further than the JW Marriott Maldives.
One of Marriott’s newer resorts in the Maldives, the standard room here is an overwater bungalow totaling an impressive 2,518 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space.
Paid rates over the next several months start at just shy of $400 per night, but can easily double depending on your dates. Luckily, very few nights exceed 100,000 points, so you should be able to redeem an 85,000-point certificate and top it off if needed.
Pro tip: There is a yoga platform jutting into the sea, at which the resort offers free classes most mornings and evenings.

London Marriott Hotel Park Lane
LONDON MARRIOTT HOTEL PARK LANE/FACEBOOK
London is home to endless excellent hotels, but one that stands out in particular is the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane.
As the name implies, the hotel is on Park Lane, right at the foot of Hyde Park. From here, you can easily access all London has to offer with a quick walk or ride on the Tube.
The property’s luxurious rooms are well designed with touches of classic British style, evident from when you walk into the posh lobby at the start. The hotel also has a popular on-site restaurant — Lanes of London — that serves contemporary British cuisine and traditional afternoon tea.
Those with Platinum Elite status or higher can visit the executive lounge for breakfast, drinks and refreshments throughout their stay.
While it may not be the most over-the-top hotel on this list, its perfect location and upscale amenities make it worth a visit. Points prices can fluctuate quite wildly: The lowest nightly rates come in at around 77,000 points per night, but can also spike to as high as 120,000 points per night. Thankfully, nightly cash rates in the coming months average around $600, so your free night certificate stands to save you a lot of money.
Pro tip: You’re right down the block from the Marble Arch Tube station, which can whisk you to central London in minutes.

The Madrid Edition
THE MADRID EDITION/MARRIOTT
The Madrid Edition unites hotelier Ian Schrager’s sleek eye with the bygone grandeur of Spain’s heyday.
It’s in the heart of Madrid, just a few steps away from Puerta del Sol. Guests can enjoy a rooftop pool with striking views of the city, a spa with candlelit treatment rooms, and the hotel’s restaurant, Oroya, helmed by chef Diego Muñoz.
With room rates ranging from $400 to $800 a night, such luxury doesn’t come cheap — so using an 85,000-point free night certificate can be a great option.
Pro tip: Enjoy a nice drink or meal at Oroya and The Roof, the hotel’s rooftop bar and terrace, and enjoy views overlooking Madrid’s hustling and bustling city center. The hotel’s rooftop also features Madrid’s largest rooftop infinity pool if you’re looking to take a dip and beat the heat.

Should you book with cash or redeem your 85,000-point certificate?
If you want to maximize your 85,000-point certificate, TPG recommends comparing the cash price and points price. Marriott Bonvoy points are worth 0.7 cents apiece, per TPG’s September 2025 valuations; therefore, 85,000 points are worth $595.
So, if a hotel stay only costs $250 or 70,000 points, you wouldn’t be maximizing your award certificate since this would only give you a redemption value of 0.36 cents per point, well below TPG’s valuation.
Of course, there are other personal considerations when redeeming your free night certificate — but on paper, a “good” redemption of an 85,000-point certificate would be a room that’s at least $595 after tax.
We suggest using the “flexible dates” feature on Marriott’s website to identify the most advantageous night for redeeming a free night certificate.
Bottom line
You have a world of choices with a Marriott 85,000-point certificate. It’s hard to go wrong when you have your pick of almost any Marriott property. However, options like these six examples will help you get the most value from your certificate.
If you want to enjoy an annual 85,000-point certificate and earn 185,000 bonus points after making $6,000 in purchases within the first six months of card membership, now is an ideal time to apply for the Bonvoy Brilliant.
