Barcelona confident of future Haaland transfer

According to El Nacional, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is obsessed with bringing Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to the club, and he and his associates are confident it will happen at some point in the future.

Haaland, 25, has unsurprisingly been an instant hit upon joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for €60million. In his first season at the Etihad, he broke the Premier League record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season in the English top flight, and he remains a deadly terror for defenders today, as he proved with a pair of fine goals in the Manchester Derby on Sunday.

Barcelona are, of course, on the lookout for a long-term replacement for 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski, and Haaland certainly ticks all the right boxes. The Norway international lining up next to the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha is a mouthwatering prospect, and Laporta’s desire to make it happen is completely understandable.

However, at the start of this year, Haaland signed a new contract with City, valid until the summer of 2034. It’s hard to imagine Barcelona producing the kind of money it would take for the Premier League side to even consider a sale at any point in the near future.
