Azerbaijani wrestler wins silver medal at Islamic Solidarity Games (PHOTO)

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Wrestling
competitions have kicked off at the Islamic Solidarity Games taking
place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Trend reports with
reference to the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.

Today, Greco-Roman wrestling competitions were held in four
weight categories.

Azerbaijani wrestler Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) defeated Latuf Madi
from the Comoros Islands with a complete advantage (11:0), but in
the quarterfinals he lost to the silver medalist of the last world
championship, Uzbekistan’s Alisher Ganiev (0:3), and to Iranian Ali
Vafa (2:3) in the fight for third place.

Khasrat Jafarov (67 kg) reached the final, defeating Afghan
Mohamed Aslam Zadeh with a score of 9:0, Kyrgyzstani Razzaq
Beishekeev with a score of 5:3 and Egyptian Mohamed Abdelrehim with
a score of 4:1. The Azerbaijani athlete, who faced Olympic and
world champion Said Esmaili of Iran in the decisive match, finished
the first half with a score of 3:0. However, in the end he lost
with a score of 3:8, becoming the silver medalist of the Islamic
Solidarity Games.

Another representative of Azerbaijan, Ulvu Ganizade (77 kg),
lost in the qualifying round to Amir Abdi from Iran (0:9). Although
he defeated Khabibjan Zukhurov of Tajikistan with a score of 5:3 in
the consolation match, he lost to Abdulla Aliyev of Uzbekistan in
the match for third place on the last points (2:2).

Islam Abbasov (87 kg) lost to the world champion from Iran,
Gulamreza Farukhisenj (0:3), in the quarterfinals, and to
Kyrgyzstan’s Asan Janisov (0:9) in the match for the bronze
medal.
